So this is a friend of a friend. I've never seen the car in person but he showed me pictures. Its a laser with a 4g63 for sure.

Him: Me and my dad built this car but we blew up the engine three times

Me: Why do you keep doing that?

Him: Well we are running the turbo and nitrous. The turbo kept making the engine blow up so we removed it.

Me: WTF Yeah that's probably it.

I didn't even want to get into it with him so i left the conversation at that.
 
I was in the dumbest situation.

I saw a 1g turbo on the side of the road, and I had seen him a few times, so I pulled over and asked if I could see his engine (I enjoy looking what can I say, some are super clean). First off, I had to pop the hood for him because he didn't know where the lever was....wow.. Then I asked if he has ever upgraded his turbo, He looked at me, and seriously said " I have a turbo?"

I just walked away..

Took me about 2 mins to figure it out, but now I get it, and I too had a forever-alone LOL . Wonder how much HP those body kits add. I'm sure that spoiler that looks like its from a Cobalt SS adds about 25. I thought my spray painted car with truck bed paint was bad.

Those northstar motors are amazing. So much race-car power in a luxury vehicle. Doesn't make sense to me. Old people get the crazy powerful motors.

They are not the greatest, someone told me about a guy that put one in his talon.


Have you ever worked on a Cadillac with a Northstar? Guess not.... Take that giant thing and turn it sideways for front wheel drive = lame!

Only thing relatively cool about those is the ability to run 6 cylinders on the highway.

And I won't go there on how many quarts of oil it takes every oil change

There is nothing sporty or fast. Maybe on a fierro.
 
The Northstar V8 was a great engine that was built and used in the worst way possible. Design a 4.6L 32v V8 monster, then make it out of cheap aluminum and stick it in a boring FWD car. The El Dorado is the only "sporty" version and it still screams "I own a pawn shop".

It's still a monster of an engine though. I still remember my father asking the Cadillac tech "What do I have to buy in order for you to take off the governor?". LOL

Caddys went from an object of desire to uncontrollable shit boxes if you ask me. Now that we have set up shop at the nuriburg (sp?) ring It will go from luxury to track times. Just like every other car company does.

That's why I love my Oldsmobile 160 HP is enough to pass and get you out of a dangerous situation. While the ride IMO is perfect for me.

Me: what size injectors are in your car
Guy: 1 inch I think

I had a vehicle posted for trade once and got offered a 96 talon tsi fwd

Guy: I will trade you but I need boot
Me: how much
Guy: well I am asking 15,000 (yes FIFTEEN THOUSAND)
Me: uh ok so how much?
Guy: at least 12,000
Me: what's done to the car
Guy: well it's turbo
Me: what turbo?
Guy: it's stock, a pretty big one
Me: what bov?
Guy: what's that?
Me: no thanks not interested
Car was stock 7 bolt with body kit and rattle can paint job. He sent pix.

This wasn't a dsm nor did it happen to me but a friend shared this and I insist on sharing it further.

A buddy of his bought a 5 speed Dodge colt. He brought it to my buddy saying it was messing up. His story was that everytime he changes gears, it makes a loud woosh. He got laughed at pretty bad. The car had a huge aftermarket turbo kit.

While shifting gears in my gst a passenger asks if my car has an air shifter (he heard bov)

A guy I know told me since my gst was turbo, I needed to get a bov for it

Same guy advertised his n/t 91 celica for sale saying it had one

Again same guy told me if I crush my bov, it would be louder. He said the crush purpose just makes it louder, nothing else.

I actually had a 92 deville. Not a northstar, but very similar. The motor was humungous and sideways. I think the 3100 in my grand am was a tighter fit though. Had to jack up the car and take off a tire to change the plugs.

If it wasn't a Northstar it probably wasn't DOHC Either. You shouldn't have to have taken the tires off a 3100 (sfi or MFI?) W Body. Take front motor mounts loose, pull the motor forward.
