Dumbest things you've heard a DSMer say? :)

If it wasn't a Northstar it probably wasn't DOHC Either. You shouldn't have to have taken the tires off a 3100 (sfi or MFI?) W Body. Take front motor mounts loose, pull the motor forward.

I don't think it was dual cam. Still crazy powerful though. Don't understand why old people get all the power LOL. and it was SFI. When I had the grand am, I knew NOTHING about the motor when it came to mounts and stuff. My DSM taught me quite a lot about everything LOL. I miss that car.

The 2.8, 3.1, and 3.4 are all related 60 degree V6's. From Multi Port Fuel Injection to SFI. They are pushrod power all day long. Although there was an overhead cam variant of the 3.4 that utilized the pushrod block. It was called the LQ1. It was extremely tall compared to its pushrod brothers but made an impressive (at the time) 260hp while being N/A. GM had to tone down the engines output to 220HP because the transmissions they had for their V6 lineup back then just couldn't take the added stress. They discontinued the motor after a 6 year run(91-97). That motor has huge huge potential on boost, but they are relatively rare, and a pain in the ass to do timing belts on. If I remember correctly you can find them in some 90's Monte Carlo LTZ's.

Coupled with the GETRAG 5 spds, those wer awsome. The 60 degree engine family besides being shorted on power, when took care of, can last a very long time. The only thing that they like to do is blow lower intake manifold gaskets, which is a pain to do if you haven't done them before.

The reason a Northstar is a pain in the ass to work on in a caddy IS the sideways DOHC. DOHC motors are significantly larger than there push rod counterparts.

Yeah buddy.

The 3.4 was a beast in my old 1992 Lumina Z34. That put my 3.1 olds cutlass to shame.
I miss that car.

So, not the dumbest thing said, but the dumbest thing done, also not DSM.

I have a friend that could only drive an automatic. And for some dumbass reason he uses both feet to drive. His right foot for the gas, his left foot for the brake. So the other day, I'm teaching him how to drive a manual. And I made if very clear that the right foot works both gas and brake, and that the left works the clutch. Well, coming up on an intersection he reverted back to dumbass mode and just shoved a pedal down with his left foot thinking he would come to a stop. But.............. His foot was on the clutch. Yay, for rear-ending people.

Oh, and this was after him doing some parking lot driving for about an hour. I figured he had caught on enough to drive on a street.

I will take a 3100 over a 3.4 any day. 60 HP drop for reliability and I don't even want to time 4 f$&@ing cams LOL.

They also came in cuts, I say the olds was a seperate entity because it was the only W body to come in a convertible.

Not to mention it had an alternator cooler, that bastard is shoved all the way behind the motor.

Want something special, drop a 3800 S/C in there :)

My 3.4 was the most reliable motor i've ever owned. My brother rolled the car 3 times and hit a telephone poll. I got into to town and went to see the damage, turned the car over and she fired right up. :hellyeah:

Not sure why people wine about the timing job, just take your time and do it right.

I'm hoping this wasn't in your car man!

Similar story, was trying to teach my ex how to drive a stick. Was in my old winter beater Neon. After 1 hour...she STILL didn't get it. I gave up.

All that GM talk is making me miss my Grand "sl" AM <-- See what I did there? I loved that 3.1. If I didn't buy the talon, I was going to spend the same money to drop a 3.8 S/C in there and have a hell of a car, but I figured I would see what the whole giddyup is about these boosted 4 cylinder AWD toys.

BMW rental car. At least he had a legal German license, so it was all covered.

Me: Yeah I'm building a 97 GSX right now.
Him: Oh, Is it a Spyder?
Me: Nah (Impressed that he knows my car from just saying 97 GSX)
Him: Is it a twin turbo?
Me: No. Single turbo. They didn't make a twin turbo model.
Him: I helped my friend buy one of those a while back. It was a Spyder twin turbo. Thing had like 300hp. Man that thing was fast.

C'mon man. I just told you they didn't make a twin turbo model. Really? And if by some odd chance his friend bought one of the very few that someone decided to do a compound turbo setup (probably not) I think it would have a little more than 300hp LOL. In his defense I think he was just trying to make conversation about something he didn't know much about but apparently he wasn't listening too well haha.

It's just funny what some people will say when they have no idea what they are talking about haha. But hey, for all I know it could have been a compound turbo spyder he was talking about...

LOL. 4g20a. mitsuchrys!

I prefer Chrysbishi haha! 4g20a *facepalm*

Confused with a 3000GT VR4 maybe? I know there was a very limited amount of Spyders made in 3000GTs.

Didn't think of that... but where would he get a 3000gt VR4 from me saying GSX? haha

I don't think I have ever seen a 3000gt convertible. I MAY have seen a T top once before...

Some people...that's all I have to say.

They did make a 3000GT Spyder, I think it was an outside company that did it. There was one in Sport Compact Car mag years back for the Ultimate Street Car Challenge.

They made convertibles, but no T-top cars. At least not to my knowledge.

3000gt spyder doesn't look very intimidating. Looks like something I would see one of those old people in that cruises around town at 25mph. Use the power god damnit.

3000gt spyders are fairly common here and they hardtop convertable not sure if theres a vr4 spyder though at least i have never seen avr4 spyder
