Hey, I'm trying to hook up my dsmlink ecu to my computer through a serial to usb port and when I press collect it says connection timed out. The COM's are the same too. I just want to here your input for the guys who run Dsmlink.

i had the same problem...all i did ws maess around with witch COM i was using and it worked out, and there not even the same. thats the way i got it to work

yes i was using xp on a sony vaio...COM 3 was the one that worked for me..also try all your usb ports

So, it turned out that my alternator fuse was blown and after I replaced it, everything worked fine. Thanks again.

wow i would have never guessed that...LOLLOL now go out and makes some logs

Sorry to bring back an old thread but I am having the exact same problem right now. I am getting the timed out error message and I have tried switching coms and that does not work. On one com it says it is being used by another program and the other com I get the timed out error. Any ideas?

Check all your fuses. Recently I have heard of a couple different guys that could not get it to work and found out it was a fuse of some sort. If that's not it, what adapter are you using?

Ok I am really getting tired of this. I checked all of my fuses under the dash and under the hood, the only one that was blown was the radiator fuse but went ahead and relaced every fuse anyway. Well that didn't help my problem one bit, I am still getting the timed out error and it is getting very annoying. The worst part is that I have tried on several different laptops and I keep getting the same error. Does anybody have an idea what might be causing this problem because I really need to get this car tuned. I am running a >10 A/R (according to my wideband O2) at WOT and I NEED Help.

Thanks in advance.

to second everyone else that is right.....get a KEYSPAN ADAPTOR
for 1g's this is the most common problem. Adaptors from office max, best buy, radioshack will NOT WORK with a 1g. Get a keyspan adaptor and you will be all good. Trust me ive been there and done that, keyspan adaptor, com4 is what worked for me man.

I am using the harness that came with my DSMlink, it is a 9 pin serial plug. Do I need to get the Keyspan Adaptor? If so where do I get one?

Edit: I found out by searching sorry.

If your laptop has a native serial port then you can use the DSMlink cable directly.
If you don't have a serial port then you something to provide one. Most current laptops don'r have a serial port and so people try and use a USB to serial adaptor. The only one that is know to work is the specific Keyspan adaptor the CompUSA and the DSMlink guys sell.

Thanks Steve,

I am still getting the timed out error with my laptop so i will go by an pick up the keyspan adaptor this afternoon and see what is going on. Also I was not given a password by the company I got my DSMlink from so that I can use the DSMlink Forums. Is there anotherway of getting the password? I bought this from a reputable vendor so I am sure that it is a legit copy.

I had the same thing happen to me. I just emailed Thomas and he set me up with a user name and password.

Ok well getting the keyspan did not help, so who is Thomas and how do I email him.

Thanks for everyones help on this. I am tired of bottoming my wideband out on the rich side under boost.

Thomas is one of the creators of DSMlink and very active on the DSMlink forums. Go to their website, they have contact info posted. Just let them know where you got it and they should hook you up. I never had to provide proof of purchase or anything, he just sent me a username and password.

Thanks, I sent Thomas an email and within 15 minutes I had my account setup. I hope that I will have my problem resolved soon.
