Just put the chip into the socket, but it looks like it’s sticking out a bit high? It won’t push in any further and I don’t want to put a lot of pressure on it.
Thoughts?

Looks too tall to me.
How long are the chip legs when it isn't in the piggyback socket?
 
It should look more like this. (Ignore anything other than how far down the DSMLink board sits in the socket in this picture)
