It's up to you when you decide to get the chip or not. He sends you a new chip and a socket. I HIGHLY recommend letting an experienced professional socket your ECU as they are easy to mess up and that is why I currently have no car. As fas as the settings, they are all locked to what you order. But it's only a 100 bucks so don't expect something like DSMlink for 1/6th the price. You can upgrade later and he will burn you a new chip for 20 dollars. Jeff is an amazing guy and probably the best vendor I've ever bought anything from. Superfast response and great cu service is what you can expect from him. After my new ECU gets here and I get the car running I'll let you guys know how it works. I had mine set for 550 compensation, 7500 rev/5000 launch, stock mas, and boost guage turned into a knock guage.

i came across this forum and found it very intriguing!!!

but a few ?'s!!!

first....how do i contact Jeff?

i bet he can answer my other questions but either way i want to hear from the
customers who are using the chip right now?

did u mean the stock boost gauge is now a knock gauge?
is this a "cheaper alternative" to dyno-tuning?
or is it worth it to just shell out the money to get it dyno tuned?
i havent set up my fuel system yet. all i have so far is my 550cc
and SAFC. i still need my fuel pump and from there i still need to
know which route to go? i am thinking of going with the 190.

just in case u need to know.
i have
EVO3 16g
intake
exhaust and downpipe with soon to be gutted cat
SAFC (havent touched it yet!)
boost controller @ 15psi hiboost
uicp
Apex FMIC
plugs and wires
among other non performance things like boost gauge and
turbo timer.
oooh! and my shift knob! :D

thanks for the info guys! :dsm:

Well I got my car running yesterday and all I can say is that Jeff's chips rock. You can read my mod list in my profile. The car seems much smoother to drive than with the stock injectors and boost comes on much smoother. I suspect I was having a bit of knock before and it seems to be gone now, but I have no way to verify that. I can tell you that the knock guage works though. I turned the boost up to around 20 and went for a ride. 3rd gear, no knock, then at the top of 4th the needle started nudging upward slightly. The car feels much stronger than it did before and I can say this.

Stutter launch pwns you

If you've never been an AWD with a stutterbox, you need to. Leaving the line with 10 psi is insane. The first launch I did with my friend in the car left us unable to lift our heads from the headrests for the first 2 gears. I still have to play around with the car some and get it running real good. I highly recommend Jeff's chips and he's a great guy.

:thumb: WOW man, I am sold. Next stop DSMchips :D

If you do not mind me asking, what did you order your rpm launch to be, and after using it would have went with a different rpm setting, or has it worked out wellfor you??

I ordered my chip with a 5500 rpm launch just because that's what I heard others doing. It worked OK at first, but when I got more mods I found it too easy to spin the tires. I tried adjusting my launch technique by launching at half throttle and slipping the clutch more, but that was just as tricky as launching without a stutterbox. I wish I could adjust it myself. There are way too many variables in each cars setup to know at what rpm a car should launch. I guess I'll have to send the chip back and have it reprogrammed to 4500 rpm.

Ya, that is one thing I was kinda worried about. But one good thing about his chips is the cost, so I guess it could not hurt to have a few different ones around the shop. Would be cool if they were adjustable like the TMO ones. I was just trying to figuire what one I should order. Going 50 or 60 trim here soon

Well since most people set their stutter at 4500, 5000, or 5500. So I just went in the middle and had it set to 5000. I love it, the car doesn't bog it just goes. I suspect this will work well with my next turbo also. As far as spinning the tires, I like it. Something has to give and I'd rather it be my tires than my transmission.

I could not agree more :thumb:

does anybody know which 1g's came with an eprom? or an easy way to tell short of pulling the ecu and checking?

I'll check later on in the day, might just be an ISP hiccup

*EDIT* They are back up no need to worry. *EDIT*

OMG Omg I want one for my b-day. Basically if i were to get this chip to work with my 680 injectors then how would I use my afc to tune the car?

When a member stated that he preset the timming at wot was this a safe gaurd ?and if it does start to knock then would the timming be pulled if it was pr- set to a certain amount?

How is the 2g chip coming along?

Although a car MAY run fine with just the chip alone, some sort of AFC is still recommended. I did not have to play with my AFC settings much with the chip, but it was still off enough to need one. I did see an average of -8% vs -33% (without the chip) which is a big improvement though! :thumb:

well after reading all of this i am definatally sold. I am ordering one this weekend!!!

i know 90's dont have em.... its a 50/50 chance to get one in a 91 (i was lucky and had one) but after that im pretty sure all the turbo dsm's have em...so if you look at a turbo with pop up lights take the ecu out and check if it has one... no pop ups then you should be good....
correct me if im wrong anybody

danny

ps...im orderin a chip after i get my 650's and afpr.... stutterbox at 5000 and see whta else i can do with it

I think your wrong here; my 90 has a eprom(not sure if the previous owner replaced it).

Also based based on the this vfaq:
http://www.darklightning.com/gi/1gvs2g.htm
it looks like any 1g might have them.

Your completely wrong. I'm not sure even the factory knows what the ratios were but
I'd guess '90s have the highest percentage of EPROM ECUs of any 1G's model year.
Every other years seems to have some small number of EPROMS from the early production of that year.

there is a thread under tuning that starts with "is anyone else having problems with keydiver chip"

check that out before making your decision on buying one. I'll put it this way. the chip is giving me soo many problems with phantom knock (no problems before) that I ordered DSM LINK for it.
