I was thinking of designing a program for you guys at dsm. The program will allow you to create of profile of your car. It aims at beginner and expert tuners and non turbo / turbo users with just a few exterior / interior / engine mods or a heavily tuned and modded vehicle. You'll be able to use the program to save a mods list of everything from the types of seats you use in your exterior to things like pictures of your vehicle, dyno charts, timeslips, comments, exc. When you save your profile it will be automatically posted to an online server hosted by me.
The reason I was thinking about doing this is it would make it alot easier for people on this forum to help diagnose problems and keep track of the different things done to their vehicles. I was going to make it encorporate DSMLink so you could load your .dat files into your profile and save the tuning settings for other people to see. You would be able to select which parts of your profile are saved online on the server for all to view and which pieces you want to keep to yourself. This will be much more indepth and orgranized that the dsmtuner.com vehicle profile.
Support Tickets
The program will also give you the ability to create support tickets. A support ticket is basically a small file generated and saved on the server that includes all of the profile information needed to diagnose a problem. Say you're running at 20psi and experiencing knock, the program will automatically generate a small file with all of the information needed about your vehicle. It will be hosted for free on our DSM Profiler site and a link will be given for you to post onto these forums. When someone on this forum clicks the link their DSM Profiler will open and show them the problem you are having and all the needed information for your vehicle so that they may help you. In the future I would hope to incorporate the ability for the program to automatically create a Thread on this forum (given that DSMtuner.com creates a special forum for support tickets). Where people can go and help fellow tuners in a very organized manner.
Storing Information
DSM Profiler would not only be for diagnosing problems, but also for keeping track of parts and wishlists of things you would like to purchase in the future. The entire profile will be embedded into a single file that is ran off the main profiler program. It will have an extension such as .dsm where everytime a file with that extension is clicked the profiler will automatically recognize it and open the profile. Kind of how if you clicked an .mp3 file your mp3 player would recognize it and open it.
Tuning
By tying into DSMLink the profiler will be able to load your .dat files and store them into your personal or online profile. When I say online I don't mean that it is physically on a website I just mean that the profile is saved in a file that you would give to other DSMers. By doing this not only will you be able to keep track of every aspect of your vehicle tuning , but you will also be able to use this for troubleshooting. The profiler will go above and beyond the ability of DSMLink and will actually calculate HP/Torque based on a number of things collected by DSMLink, or by using your 1/4 mile times and vehicle weight with a semi accurate air speed/direction.
Show Cars
Not everybody is into motor tuning, alot of our fellow DSMers are just into the interior and exterior look of our vehicles. You will have the ability to save pictures and detailed information about aftermarket parts such as body kits, aftermark seats, sound systems, rims, and other modifications. There will also be a section for custom modifications, and notes for each part so other people can read how you did them.
__________________________________________
This would be very user friendly and would auto fill in much of the information in the profiler based on some of the entries you filled in previous fields. Alot of it will require little to no experience with tuning yet will provide the experts online with all the information they need based on calculations derived from the information that was given.
This program has started development but I've decided to halt it while I get some feedback from you, the fellow DSMers so I know that this will be used and helpful. I only want to put something together like this if it's going to help the community.
I'm open to any suggestions or changes in things I've talked about. Just give me some feeback, and feel free to contact me by AIM: spi1400.
I have a bachelor's degree in computer programming and have been a tuner enthusiast for 6 years. I'm up for the challenge of whatever you guys would like me to do with this program, or if it's even worth it at all. If you find this to be a complete waste of time, please give me some ideas of what types of programers (besides datalogger and tuning programs) that you would like to see available.
