What ever you need just ask we are all going down the same road and all try to help each other out. I agree its a great site LOTS of great info. :thumb: :thumb:

140k stock block, not even rebuilt yet, still modding, no problems (yet?) Just remember to do routine maintenance, you'd be surprised how much longer that makes your car live.

212k on stock block and such havent had any problems when i had it rebuilt guy said all the stock internals were still golden and that was only about 3k ago. the motors will last forever if you take care of them and stay on top of you maintance

210k no rebuilds, no internal work, and its pushing high boost and tons of bolt ons OMG . I went 2 the track ran it 13 times and it pured the whole time :D . now thats a testimant to DSM :dsm: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

My car runs great with the stage 1 mods complete. I have about 110K on it. I started modding around 90K, although a few basic mods had been done at about 75K.

Bought the car with 97k on her, still stock block/head with only bolt-ons. She seems to run fine. She's going to need a headgasket soon but I'll keep her happy.

Jumpman's 95 talon has 173,000 original miles (no rebuilds ever) on it and we just bagan moding it like a month ago.

I'm looking at buying a 97 spyder gs-t, he's asking 6800, its in good condition, new clutch, new roof, BUT has 150k on it.
My mechanic friend says compression check.
sure, makes sense. but what can i really expect from such a high mileage car? will the turbo blow? will the engine pop? is the car prone to any kind of failures at that mileage?

Thanks!!

Do the compression test.
Does it leak oil?
Does it burn oil?
Is maintenance up to date?
Is there shaft play on the turbo?
It basically depends on how it was driven...

I agree. If it's been ridden harder than a $100 hooker on nickel night, keep lookin'.

I know the guy, he takes really good care of it and always has. since he bought it new.
i dont know if the turbo has play, and I'm sure the maintenance has been taken care of.
I'm willing to offer him 6000, and let him talk me up to 6200 to make him feel like he's getting the deal.
is that such abad price to pay? the interior is perfect, the paint is immaculate.

its just the mileage that bothers me. its bone stock, never raced and never been driven hard (this guys kind of a girl).

any more input? I'd love to hear it!

truth is i have 9g's to spend on an eclipse gst / gsx, and this is the best i can find in california. the classifieds are either too much money or not in my state

edit: no oil leak and i dont think it burns much oil, I'll check on that one.

not to rain on your parade.. but id keep looking if you have 9k to spend i think it would be a bad idea to buy that car for 6.. check kelly blue book i bet its not worth more than 6k.. and thats a high estimate i wouldnt pay more than 5k for that car regardless of how its taken care of 150k means your about time for a rebuild

kbb says the car is worth $6415

how much is a rebuild? I'm technically inclined, but could not do it myself.
anything specific i should be aware of? for a car with so many miles? and how long do they usually last before i dunno..before something undesireable happens.

better yet anyone have a good 97-99 gst they wanna sell? :p

I bought a 99 GS-T back in April '04 for 9500. Then, it had just under 30.5k miles on it. I say keep looking. 150k miles is really high.

alright, so I now know its possible to be successful with a high mileage car, if i get it compression tested, and looked over and the guy says theres nothing wrong with it...
why shouldn't i get it?

thanks for the replies!

I picked up my 99 gst for 9k in Aug 03. She had 40k miles on her. Take it for what its worth, but this one your looking at has more than 3x the miles for about 3k less $. ( I mean for all practical purposes that car is nearing the end ) If your planning on modding this, your going to have to do a lot of maintenence to be sure everythings ok. At 150k just about anything can go wrong. My .02

Take in the facts, and do what makes you happy.

I think that's a bit much. I bought my 97 TSi for $5k w/100k on the odometer. I'd keep looking.

keep looking

awd > fwd
i suggest you look into an awd talon or eclipse.
talon probably would be cheaper.

i suggest getting a 2g talon awd for cheaps, then slap on the 97-99 eclipse converstion.

prepare to drop some cash into maintaining the car, cus you are probably picking them up at 100k+ miles.

good luck
