Im thinking about getting dsmlink used with eprom ecu. only thing is... it is v2.

What are the major differences? I have a minimal mod setup right now:
gauges, DP, MBC

I would like to get my foot in the door so I can upgrade for cheap later when i go SD (upgarade is 200)

Is V2 obsolete now? or is it generally just as functional?

Thanks

And what do you think i should pay for such a setup? Im thinking around 250 (300 max, and thats a stretch, at that price i feel like buying new is the same) Locally picked up.

ALSO:
How can I easily confirm that it works if the seller cannot? anyway I could leave my ecu hanging out of the center console, drive to him, swap systems and see if everything loads up without having to have a tune for my car?

I have already spent alot of time on ecmlink.com. I double checked these areas:
FAQs
About us
Knowledge base

and v2 user manual

I do not have access to forums.

From what it looks like:
V2 is an already "perfect system" and v3 is more perfect (cocky bastards, LOL :shhh: )

Is 2.5 the "same" hardware wise as v2? (the v2 manual i found was only for 2.5

Long story short to answer my needs, the site vaguely hints that v2 will be a fine start for me especially given my setup (close to factory)

So now to answer my second Q...

IF i offer 350$ for an eprom socketed, and link v2, Am I being a jerk? or is that pretty reasonable?
Is that too high?

And here's a link to the wiki page about what they did for v3
v3summary [ECMTuning - wiki]

THANKS! I knew it had to be in there

ALSO:
MOST IMPORTANTLY, is there a quick/easy to verify it is actually finctional? if the owner himself cannot prove it.

Go V3 lite. It's perfect for the majority of DSM owners.

I wouldn't consider going V2 at this point.

good point. I want to go SD though. I got a real sweet price quote for v3+sd+ eprom conversion (still relatively high but very decent) Thats what I will probably end up doing.

And I did some quick math to deduct the v2 to v3 upgrade and sd package resulting in my "break even" offer. He didnt even accept that.

And since ALMOST Everyone thinks their Link is worth MSRP or more for used, without warranty and no new packaging etc, not Direct from the Manufacturer... I will have to just suck it up and buy new :thumb: Thanks.

I like SD. Keep your MAF handy to calibrate you VE before switching over. I use the Evo8 MAS to calibrate ny cars.

Consider the GM IAT and the Omni 4-bar MAP when you do go SD. Unless you intend to run more than 40psi boost, in which case you'll need the AEM 5-bar, but it has lower resolution. So plan accordingly.

Try not to haggle with Tom.

I think v3 lite has enough for the majority of the street cars out there, and I think they changed it enough to make it worth the extra money, that's gonna be the route I go in the spring

I agree. I started off on v3 lite and they only reason I went to v3 full was for the boost by gear setup (I'm FWD). I'm not using any of the additional full version features at this point. I would recommend v3 lite to just about everyone.

IMHO,

I would run a Custom Eprom Chip over V2 link there just isn't the type of control over things in the way I like. Though, I'm probably not the Most average user...

I've never really been a fan of Dsmlink... . V3 is a completely different tuning platform in my Eyes an as the guys at ECM Tuning say
It was quite literally a complete rewrite of everything to produce a better end-product.

If anything just go V3 lite as Said above. It's probably more then you need:thumb:

I have been contemplating this as I am also FWD at the moment.

This seems to be something of a necessity for when I have LSR skinnies on to run on the salt at Bonneville. Otherwise it will be a real handful.

How long did it take to set up and figure out what duty cycle provided what boost? I have two 38mm wastegates that will have to cooperate and work together.

Sorry for the hijack, ordinarily I would have PM'd you on this but for whatever reason I am unable at the moment, I get the page header and then blank grey screen. Is this due to my member status?

Probationary Members can still send PM's. I'm not sure why you are having issues. Lets move this conversation over to the FWD thread: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drag-strip/196598-where-fwds-51.html#post152808035
