When i Bought my 95 GST three years ago it came with dsmlink and a dell laptop programed with dsmlink to tune with. Im finally almost finished with my build that i started last winter and about to turn the car on. The only thing is i relized i dont have the CD (program) for the dsmlink. Is this bad? Do i need to buy a new DSMlink? Or can i tune thru DSM link without the CD?

You can download it for free on the ECMLink website. You can use V3 but you wont be able to use all the features. Its much easier to use than V1 and V2 in my opinion. Its under Downloads on their homepage.

Just realized you already have the program on the Computer. so no you wont need the CD as long as it is fully downloaded on the laptop.

Its installed on the laptop already. I was just wondering if once its installed its good to go, or do u need to put the cd in everytime you use DSMlink? So what you sayin is if i have v2, i could download and upgrade to v3?? Is ECMlink the same as DSMlink?

The real object that's worth those million bucks is the obd cable. Let's hope you have that.

actually its the ecmlink chip they install in your ecu. the cable was only worth 80 bucks or something like that.

That is only true for v3, which the chip is the key to the system. For the v2 system, the cable was the key for a 2g package (the daughter board for a 1g package) since they did not sell them separately.

Yea but they won't sell you the cable without having an account with them. So I guess it's a combo of both.

Just so it's clear there is software that runs in the ECU and client software that runs on your PC.
What runs in your ECU defines what version of DSM/ECMLink you have and the features supported. The current V3 client side software works with both V2 and V3 ECUs.
