driveshaft problem

1990 eagle talon awd. where the two driveshafts meet I have found that the bracket were they go is bent bad. It its rubbing on the front shaft and I would like to get a new middle piece. where can i find one. I think its the carrier bearing, but not sure, I dont want to drive the car the way it is. any advice would be great.

Bad news you cant service them. Have to find a another used one for buy a new one

not discontinued you just cant service it. Some weird reason the haynes manual says you can. I have a 90 awd to. I took mine to a drive shaft place and they told me that you cant service them.

Find a shop that will make you a custom shaft. More times than most, its cheaper than an OE unit from the steelership or a parts store.

cant make a custom one either its a 3 piece drive shaft. You can buy a one piece one but they dont last as long as the oem ones do. There made in 3 pieces because its not actually straight back.

I should just buy a new one from mitsu. or find a used one is what you are telling me.

you can try and call a shop who specializes in drive shafts. But the one that is in town by me says you cant. They have been in business for 60 years.

I'm not fully understanding the problem you're having! You can Buy new carrier bearing from extreme psi, if thats what you're needing! Is there anyway you can post up some pictures, of you're driveshaft??

Agreed. Carrier bearings can be replaced, and the lobro joint can be disassembled and regreased. Pictures will help tremendously

I don't know why they would say that, but you can get new carrier bearings, new yokes, and universals for 1g's and 2g's!
I've rebuilt numerous driveshafts for my car!

yes it is the carrier bearing that is wrong. I would try to get a pic. but i live in northwest Indiana and the car is outside, I moved the snow around it and the battery is dead, awsome, but If i can get it to start and move into the garage I will snap a photo and show you, but I believe that is the problem so thanks again.

You can service every part in the driveshaft except for the driveshaft itself.

I too need driveshaft part that is no longer serviced. I need the front 9" piece that slides into the transfer case. My car is an automatic, but i was hoping that the manual driveshaft would substitute.

The automatic and manual drive shaft are the same, so yes it will substitute.

That piece is called a slip yolk.
Like was said before both are the same.

Mopar, JNZ has a kit that will help in replacing your yoke.

For both you and the OP, the easiest and cheapest way to remove the U-joints is to borrow a ball joint/universal joint service kit from a parts store. Advanced Auto (and others, I'm sure) has a loan-a-tool program where you put cash down in order to use their tool, then return it for a full reimbursement. Mine was $160 down.

Not sure how important it is, but try to mark every joint so you can put it back together in the same orientation. Being out of balance would wear those carrier bearing insulators out prematurely. And as you now know, they're expensive little buggers.

let me get this straight...so the rear carrier bearing in the driveshaft is also replaceable with the one extremepsi sales? cause it only says center carrier bearing..

Yes. The center and rear carrier bearing share the same part number (MB505495), so the one ExtremePSI offers will fit either position.
