Hey guys,

First post. Glad to be on board. I'm still new to DSMs and I've never raced at the track before so my knowledge on drag slicks is limited. I'm also not sure if drag slick sizes are classified the same or differently than regular radial tires.

I'm running a 13'' rotor on my redheaded step Talon (FWD) and I'm told that 17 inch wheels are the smallest sized wheels that will fit my brake set up. I've also been told that there are drag slicks manufactured to fit a 17'' wheel. I'm running TSWs with a 225/45 sized tire right now so I'm curious if it were possible to purchase a set of slicks I could A.) mount on my existing wheels or B.) mount to seperate wheels but still fit my car without changing the brake set up.

I've been cruising Ebay but outside that I'm not sure where to seek out drag slicks. I'd like to get something by the time the track opens back up.

Thanks.

summitracing, has Hoosier QTP in a 17" size, i think their 26x9.50x17!

Correct me if i'm wrong but wouldn't he be better off with drag radials instead of slicks

Change out the brakes... A FWD is going to struggle getting any sort of traction with out some sidewall. Most of the big brake kits will fit certain 16's. Just might take some research. the 16" will perform better and open up selection of tires. But a 15" would be better yet with a largest variety of tires to choose from. I'd sell the brakes...

^^^ I agree with this.

I'd rather have a slightly smaller rotor and run less wheel and more sidewall.
Depending on which caliper you're using and how it's mounted, you might be able to for a 16" wheel.

Drag radials aren't bad, but I'd usually take a slick over a DR any day. With a slick, you get a better contact patch and a better sidewall.

Only thing is that once you do slicks without an lsd then expect to start breaking parts unless you launch easy. Wheel spin is good on the stock lsd because it puts less initial shock on the rest of the drivetrain. Maybe an lsd and then some slicks or street radials would be a better route.

Yeah. That does make sense. I've got a few months to figure something out before I hit the track. The Quaife LSD is one of top priorities right now but I wasn't really sure what route to go with the brakes. I would rather just mount slicks to seperate wheels anyway so I could easily change back and forth without remounting the tire.

Thanks for the imput guys!
