I want my car to have about 300-400 HP and I want my car to be as quiet as possible.

I want to get a 16g soon,

But I need to replace my catalytic converter immediately as I'm trying to resolve an issue.

Will this stuff bolt up to the T-25 turbo until I get a 16g? Actually, I'm considering a small 16g.

do I want to recirculate the gases or not? I read that it's very very loud to dump it. What other differences are there?

Is the Apexi N1 downpipe 2.5" - 3", or 3"?

Should I just get a Megan one, or is there something else? I don't care if it's $100 difference. If one is better, might as well get that one. I just want a full 3", if I'm doing the external wastegate. Also, I have no idea how that works with the T-25.

The mods in my profile are current

Regarding the dump, it is loud. Yet it depends on the amount of boost you are running and how hard you drive your car. I am running 23 psi, the only time you dump is when the wastegate opens. For me I never hit full boost unless I choose to do so, yet if you are running 10psi it could get annoying very quickly as a T-2slow spools so quickly you would be dumping all the time and that to me would be loud and annoying as you would hit that low boost level so easy. The dumping does nothing other than a argued topic over boost creep issues, worked for me yet simply going to a 2.5" over stock may have done that. It will be opened up more than a stock o2 housing so it might deepen your exhaust a tad.

External dumps are not that loud and sound good. Recirculated would be best for you if you wanted it to be as quiet as possible but still have excellent boost control (no creep). A small 16g is a very fun turbo to start out with and you can make around 300 to 350 with good supporting mods. However i'd consider going to an evoIII 16g for that kind of goal. Those will all fit on the t-25/16g. Do you have emissions in your state? If not delete cat.
Good luck!

Actually its been argued that recirculating the waste gate causes turbulence in the exhaust tract, lowering flow. But its not going to make a huge difference. Me personally, I like a quiet exhaust, so if I had the choice I'd recirc

Thanks guys for the reassurance.

So with my Thermal R/D cat back, what's the ideal DP/cat setup?

I suppose 3" dowpipe will be best

I heard some good things about the N1 and haven't heard about much else. The N1 says 60-80mm, which is approximately 2.4" - 3.1".

So what gives? What's a good 3"?

I don't really care about the price differences so much. I want it to fit, quieter is better. I guess the most important factor is performance, including weight of the system.

I remember reading somewhere where it was a 3" DP that "you didn't have to worry about boost creep" with, but I don't remember where!

I would reccomend recirulating the wastegate if you ever plan to run a track day or autocross because exhaust cannot leave the car before the driver's seat.

I have had good success with Megan Racing down pipes and a thermal catback. I did modify the setup though. The MR downpipe reduces down to 2.5 inches toward the rear flange to mate with a stock exhaust. The Thermal has a flange section to mate with the stock catalytic converter. I cut the flange off the Thermal and where the downpipe begings to reduce. I use slip fittings to connect the exhaust. This allows you to just run a 3in staight pipe or a slip fit catalytic converter that can change in 15 minutes. There are no flanges to rust. magnaflow steel loom catalyitc converters can be had for sub $100.

I'm also running the Thermal exhaust. I have the megan 3" DP and like it. Check my profile for other mods, as I am aiming for the same power goals. If you want to get rid of the cat, get some 3" stainless and get someone to weld flanges on it and remove the step down on the exhaust and the rear of the DP. Also you may want a quieter muffler on the car, the Thermal one gets nice a throaty if you stomp on it.

I'm thinking of getting the Punishment Racing 3" downpipe. It's a full 3 inches the whole way, but it's true about the Thermal, as I learned yesterday. It has a slight reduce at the end where it mates to the cat.

The Punishment Racing o2 (link in OP) can mate with either the 2.5" or 3" downpipe

I like that the megan racing dp is half the weight of the punishment. but 5 pounds isn't a huge deal, especially so low in the car.

But the "boost creep" stories are very worrisome, maybe I should just get a 2.5" and call it a day. No cutting or welding, maybe no creep issues (especially with the external wastegate)

What do you think?

I am running a PR open dump housing with a Tial F38 on it 3in turbo back. Turbo is a Frank lvl 3 20g. and honestly its not very loud i dont feel and im at 23psi only can hear it after 20psi when it opens up.

I just got my hands on a BIG 16g and plan to put 350hp to the ground. I know I need a 255 with amfr and ~750cc injectors and ecu, but how do I build more boost from the 16g wg? I have a knock off tial external laying here, but I don't think using that is a good idea....plus I would have to buy a o2 with ewg

On the internal wg also make sure it opens fully. I installed a fp 16g and it crept boost on a buddys car crazy. You can fix most problems with a die grinder.

I like running a wg dump because if you run high boost you can make sure it only opens when you want. I usually run 30psi on e85 I am trying this year on my new car tuning it to 40lbs

I've got an aftermarket 02 housing for the boost creep. I might get a larger flapper...just depends on hose this stock one holds up. I got the typical cracking you see in a lot of posts. Won't know till I hook it all up.
