door speakers

this is a question for anyone who has put after market woofers in their doors, i am putting new woofers in my door, but when i took the old ones out i had to cut a little plastic, should i put any kind of plastic behind the speaker to keep it away from the water that can get in the door itself? or did you just put it in and leave it?

My car is summer only here so I don't have anything behind the speakers. Just trim and go is what I did.

the reason why i ask is because when i pulld my old speaker out of the door, becasue i though i blew it, i looked at the dome on it and it was wrinkled,"shit", pulld it all the way out the back was rusted beyond belief, and the other door speaker is starting to rust, i can post pictures when my camera charges, but seriously they are rusted, and when you take out the speaker you can touch the outter most metal just to clarify.

There are foam buckets that you can put behind them to insulate the sound and seal out water. I have them in my Jeep and have never had a problem with them.

I got them from Crutchfield a few years ago. They should still have them, but I'm sure other places have them.

If its wet in there chances are you could be dealing with a leak. Check the bottom of your doors for water/moisture your window felts and wipers could be a little hard and may also need attention.

Ive cut the stock box or enclosure and re-sealed it with Dynamat. I think its one of the better options out there. Prevents moisture from getting in, and also helps with sound quality and projection.

I would be concerned about rust inside the door panels. It has a tendancy to spread quickly. If you have that much of a moisture problem, maybe you should consider spraying some undercoating inside the door panel areas while you have them taken apart. Are your window track channels leaking to cause this?

Circuit city and Radio Shack sell plastic to deal with the speaker retrofit.

You really need to find the source of the moisture. It doesn't matter how well the speaker is protected if the door rusts out around it.

thats the thing, there is absolutely no sign of water inside the door? could it be that the speaker is developing condensation at night or in the winter? thats why i think that the dynamat or something else to seal around the speaker with so it has no open are to the inside of the door. so i still have no idea of whats going on let me know if it could be condensation?
