2G Door Handles Help! [Merged 11-7] broke broken eBay replacement repair handle outside

Hey Guys I have 2 really dumb question about the clips in the door handle and lock cylinder. First the white clip that connects the handle linkage. Just how important is this clip? I'm asking because I guess I opened and closed this clip so much it's sliding on the linkage to much, so what I did is slide the end of the linkage right into the hole where you would attach that clip. I know it's not proper but the handle works for now, and just as soon as I can find another clip I will make it right. (anyone know were I can find one it, would help)

Second and more importantly the little orange clip on the lock cylinder that connects the lock linkage. I forgot when I took this apart, is the end of linkage suppose to be pushed into the hole there and connect the clip or do you just connect the clip to the linkage? I'm asking because this clip pops off when i lock the door with the key. Sounds like a just need to get soon new clips but I would like to know what you guys think.

Thanks To All

First, the white clip is very important and you won't be able to open the door without it for very much londer. I went to the stealership to get mine.

Second, I'm pretty sure you need to put the orange clip into the hold, not just clipped. I know there have been a few really good write-ups on the internet that have some good pictures. Get some more clips if your's don't work or you have doubts about their function quality. Oh, and I can't believe you didn't like my illustrations! I went over how to show them for hours before I posted my final draft. Haha- (better add that because you don't know me well enough to know I was just kidding.) :p

But seriously, it's hard to do the door handle fix and can be frustrating so let us know how it works out for you if you haven't got it done already. :thumb:

Your right Rally, Although the handle is working now I have the feeling that something will happen to that pushrod without the clip. Funny thing is I found the new clip as soon as I put the door back together (someone's telling me to fix it right, don't be lazy) :nono:

And thanks for the clarification on the lock cylinder linkage. I thought the end was to go threw the clip hole then the clip. That clip just didn't seen strong enough to hole the linkage by it's self.

Thanks for the assist bro:thumb:

It's pretty straight forward install, just a bit tedious, but after the 2nd time you do one, you get the idea. I've been using the replacements on EBAY, have been working great, on the car I've installed it on.

It's important that the little white and green clips in the door hinges don't break, its what hangs on to the actual door handle when you open it. If this is your problem, it will be more pain trying to find a work around, instead of just going to SATAN and buying them.

Good luck, do this a few times, and like I said, it's another one to add to your DSM achievements and talents ROFL

Your welcome. I just remember how hard it was for me to figure it out on my own... took a LONG time.

SO TRUE!!!!!! I feel great having done it and feel like now I could do it again in >1 hour.

Anybody have a how-to on replacing a 1G door handle, and where I can get the replacement at? I'm tired of having to open my car from the passenger side all the time... >_<

I got my handle off ebay for like 25 bucks, good looking piece too for an after-market piece , but mine was a 2g. I would assume you could grab a 1g handle off ebay. Wish i could help as far as a how-to for 1g handle replacement, but if it's anything like the 2g replacement it pretty straight forward but, BE PATIENT and take you time because there is no room to really work in the door and that will be the big issue. I replaced mine about a week ago and the cut on my hands are just starting to heal.

Good Luck

so yeah today my passenger side door handle snapped finally. i heard satan sells them for $60 after readin the guide on how to fix them. no deal for me. then i decided to search on car-parts.com. lowest i found was $20 and it wasn't my car's color so no deal still. then i searched ebay and found a ton for $16 shipped. how good are these handles? im not gonna expect them to break after a month of use right? i wonder why they're so cheap too...

Do you have a link for them? I got a new one a few years back from a1 auto parts. They seem to work fine. I know I got mine for under $20 so, it should be similar to the one your thinking about getting.

it's by some company called dr. autoparts. the ebay ID has over 99.9% positive with 73,000 sales. they seem trustworthy. i still don't know why it's so cheap there and more expensive than the junkyard.

That one looks fine. Here is a link for the same thing : http://www.1aauto.com/1A/DoorHandleExterior/Mitsubishi/Eclipse/1ADHE00166/484417

If you compare the two pictures, you will see that they are the same thing. I would go ahead and get it.

I know this is going to get moved but thats fine. I am have a problem with getting the outside door handle off. My buddy went to get it and ripped it off:cry:. I can't get the handle out. The bar that opens the door up I can get everything but that out. my ? is how does it come out?

Normal problem with our old cars. I finally got my black 98 MINT! All new interior, had a fully built crate motor with a 57trim turbo, wingless, built exactly the way I like... and some kids try breaking into it by opening the door? LOL Door was locked ofcourse and they left the handle on the ground by the door. I got another one from a junk yard, and it broke on transit from the yard, to my house...

Well I am thinking about just ordering a set off of:nono:e bay all the junk yards around me dont have 2gs only 1gs.

HAHA ya i remember both my handle's breaking on me too, not on the same day though. I replaced them with some ebay replacement handles and they worked great... well they didn't snap off on me so they did the job ROFL

yea i just went with a set of ebay ones 30 bucks.....i am getting sick of the little things on this car....mitsu hellllll
