2G Door Handles Help! [Merged 11-7] broke broken eBay replacement repair handle outside

I need to buy a new driver side door handle as well, so i am curious if the work manship of the door handle satisfied you. I really would rather buy OEM, but if you give me the OK, i will be buying the 1A auto door handle as well. What do you think of your purchase now it is installed?

Well I got it installed, with the help of my uncle. It feels stronger, and being new (the springs especially), its a bit harder to pull out. All in all, I would recomend 1aAuto. The only negatives I have about this was that it was not a dead exact match (you could see thin cracks of light before door panel was put back on), and that it was a flat, not glossy, black.

hey guys, i am looking for help installing a driver side exterior door handle on a 97 2g eclipse. I bought my handle from 1Aauto, and it looks pretty nice. Stiff, but nice, probably just the new spring. Anyways, i spent an hour or two with the door pannel off, and there was a bajillion screws, plastic black tar stuff, and after removing a bunch of screws, i couldn't get the glass off to be able to reach the door handle screw i needed to get off to get the door handle off.

Anyways, i will jump outside and spend another 10 hours trying to get it off, but it would bne great if tonight someone cold take a pic, or find a pic of the door side pannel off or a walk thorugh somewhere on the site or elsewhere, but i am just looking for some help getting this thing installed, so i can be a cool kid and not get into my car through the passenger side..

-thanks in advanced!

p.s. if i end up doing it myself tomorrow, i will write up a review on the install of the door handle myself, so if your looking for help as well, check back soon!

Its basically 2 bolts and 2 clips for the rods. Just make sure you roll the window up before you take the door panel completely off otherwise you wont be able to get to the door handle.

sorry about the double post, the site went down i think, well at least for me.

so i just got finished installing it, i couldn't wait to fix the door handle, so i went and got a flashlight and went right back to work. It is a bit harder than i thought it was going to be, however, after some searching i found some help. Instead of writing a review, i want to share what i found after some quick browsing, and helped alot.

i am not sure if i am aloud to, but here is a helpful link i found that explained exactly what to do to remove the door handle, with pictures.

http://www.redefinedrides.com/handle.html

that helped me alot, but just some advice from me: don't do it at night time, i cut my thumb pretty bad, bleeding over the socket wrench i used to get the nut from behind the glass with. I didn't even know it was blood till i started thinking to myself, wow there is alot of grease back there, and sure enough, it wasn't grease, it was blood :toobad:

good luck, and have a great day/night!

That's a great link. I remember that it was a pain in the behind to get back in. Seeing the pics from that website give me a better understanding of how to do that now. Now I can go and replace mine since my car attempted to be broken in to.

just thought i add that i was able to instal the door handle last night. i too purchased one from 1Aauto, was shipped to me in about 3 days, bubble wrapped without any included screws; was about 40 bucks after s/h.

Install was the hardest thing i have done to my car, but i havn't jumped into the engine stuff yet.

Needs some paints as they only come flat black, but other than that, looks pretty close to an exact match to the original door handle. I give it an a o k :thumb:

RedefinedRides.com makes an all aluminum handle which seems to get ride of all of the problems associated with our cars door handle problems. I plan on looking into getting them for myself. I'll let you know how they are.

Mine was actually opened and the factory alarmed saved the car from being stolen. Thank God! Now I have to buy one and replace it. Does any one know if all 2g's or even 1g's passenger door handle's are the same? Thanks

All 2G door handles are the same as well as sebring/avengers of the same years. The 1G door handles are different. While you are getting new door handles I would reccomend purchasing the kit to repair/strengthen the handles aswell. Have fun I know it can be a pain in the @ss. ROFL

Thanks for the link of the kit but mine didnt break from there. What was broken, was the "holder" of the key cylinder. Not the hinges.

I replaced the handle with one from ebay. It worked well. I had to use the old gasked to it can fit better, but oh well. I had it painted and of course there is a tiny bit difference in color bc it has newer paint, but ebay handle wasnt bad.
The way I took off the inner screw was with a 10mm open end wrench. It wasnt the easiest, but fit the best. To put that screw back in place, just use your fingers to tighten. To get it completely tight, you will have to use the wrench again, but it will be somewhat hard to get it back in there. AT least for me it was. Hope you changed it by now.

My door handle broke yesterday and as I am disconnecting everything, the inside bolt that holds the handle would not budge. The handle came off but the bolt is still on, and every time I try to put some pressure to get it off the mental that hold the bolt bends. What would be the best way to get it because I don't the metal to brake off that holds the bolt.
I was thinking of buying a propane bottle and heat the bolt, would that make the bolt come off.

for the price and cheap fix great... I can feel the difference between my drivers door (ebay) and my passanger door (oem)..

But for $21 shipped I couldn't beat it, you know how hard it is to keep the drivers door poped open on a hill???? its a pain in da ass

no it wont do nothing but make it hot and if you try turning it when its hot the bolt could just break... go to your local auto zone or some where and get anything that will eat threw rust ### thats what it sounds like it is or its just seized up so before you do that use some w-d 40 on it

peace:dsm:

Yep pick up some pb blaster and spray the shit out of it, but try to catch the excess with a paper towell so you dont flood the inside of your door. Also get a pair of plyers and have someone hold the metal where the bolt is through the outiside of the door where the handle was, while you turn the bolt.

Okay guys I have been trying to replace my driver side door handle since 10:00 this morning. I've completed the install twice now just to find out the handle still will not open the door. I thought it may have been that little white clip for the linkage , maybe it was upside down (i don't know) so on the third time now i flipped it the other way, still nothing. (any picture for exactly how that clip connects would be great)
What seems to be happening is the linkage is not pushing down on the other part that would release the latch does that make sense. (sorry i can't explain it better than that.) Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

There was no need to put "2g" in front of the thread title. Haha, we all knew you must have a 2g if you have this issue. On to the point! I know how you feel! I dealt with the same thing your experiencing last fall. The white clip is not your problem (you can't really put it on wrong). It's the bronze rod that connects up top. It also connects down inside the door. You have to get that back on the rod or else the two seperate rods can't work together and the door handle won't open. I had to make a hook to do so. Hold your head up though, it took me a lot longer than seven hours when I did the door handle fix! My battery drained because the door was open so long haha. But yes, I believe that is your issue and it was mine. It was very difficult to do especially in such a tight place. I was thinking... no wonder they charge $300 at the dealership to do the door handle replacement!

The rod is like this I believe [ __ on the bottom and you have to get it like [_. Together.

Thanks guys. I read those articles before I got started. I thought that rod was the problem. So is there suppose to be another clip or something that connects to the bottom of that rod or do I need to rig something up to make it work properly. Rally98... I would really like to know exactly what you did to make it work or maybe a little better illustration( on offense bro).

Thanks
