Looking to see what i should do next to my 98 talon without spending a fortune. I have a 16g, mbc, bov, exhaust, and intake. I was thinking of looking into getting some sort of logger that i can use to play with the computer and adjust some stuff, but i don't wanna spend a lot of money mostly because i don't have the money. I think some sort of programmer would be a better less expensive investment to get the most bang for the buck than an fmic or dsmlink, but i don't know what would be a good programmer to get that i can play with and get more power without spending the $1500 on a dsmlink or evoscan or something. Would an eprom or reprogrammed ecu be my best bet or is there a cheap logger like the apexi I-moni be better?

dsmlink is like 350 for the lite version. thats my next investment. it seems like a great system and ive talked to alot of people with it.

since when is DSMlink 1500

little exaggeration; don't exactly have more than $200 to spend on something. I'm a poor college student.LOL But no one really answered my question as to a cheap computer upgrade that would benefit my setup the best. I'm kinda a noob when it comes to the ecu stuff on newer cars so i don't really know what would help me best.

Just get a used netbook with Windows XP on it. They have tons of used netbooks on craigs for sale cheap, I use one for datalogging on my SRT8 and the batteries last forever.

Edit: NM I see you only have the money for tuning software and want to use your desktop / laptop you already have.

Check to see if you have the black plastic cased ECU. Then get a Taxtrix cable and buy EVOScan and download ECUFlash. There's your tuning and datalogging setup for just over 200 bucks.

Get something to log, classifieds has them for $100 or less, and an SAFC2. I got mine for $75. Than save some money and get a wideband or egt gauge.

Link isnt your only option, check to see if you have a black plastic cased ecu. If you do then try http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tun...first-flashed-dsm-ecu-98-99-flashing-faq.html. You really should also get some other supporting mods, since your on a budget you could visit evom.net and look for stock evo injectors and fuel pump, or just so you know at least 550cc injectors and a 190lph fuel pump, with that you should be able to up the boost safely with a tune. A 16g at stock boost levels isnt even trying to blow out air, anything above 16psi and thats when the 16g is really beginning to wake up. Do these and you can expect a totally different car. Wideband is a must, EGT isnt.

Flashing is the cheapest route if you have the proper ECU otherwise to use ECMLink you will need to get an EPROM ECU as well. I'm not sure if you got around to being able to convert 2g non EPROM to EPROM yet.

I would have said to reflash your stock ecu since it is a 1998-99 but you said this in bold below.

link is easier to get working well right away and easier to manipulate in the beginning of the learning curve. But there's nothing like a little research to save you hundreds. I like the ceddymod project for the 2g cars. It's great to have this under your belt and worth the patience learning how to reflash your own ecu.

Go for a few gauges, safcII all can had very cheap used.
Example, boost, wideband, oil temp, volt gauge, and water temp gauge. If have automatic a Trans temp gauge, will be good.

These will look nice fill a 3 pillar and 3 on center console, good starting point for getting readings.

i didnt see you put up anything on the injector size/ fuel pump size etc. you should probably start there before talking about dsmlink.

i Know i really should be looking at getting new injectors, fuel pump and regulator, and maybe even an fmic, and that those with a good tune would be best to do; but i don't really have the money to get a good quality injector. Unless anyone knows where to get a quality injector for a reasonable price, the one's i was looking at were $400 for the set. I also met a guy who had basically the same setup i have only he had a logger and had someone get his car a nice tune and was making 320 whp with stock injectors and fuel system which would be ideal for me until i get out of college and start making some money to really put into my car what i want to. This is why i was thinking of going the ecu route.

Sorry if this is makes me sound like an idiot, but what exactly is the ceddymod project? I've never heard of that before.

You can go to fuel injector clinic and they have i think up to 850's for 289 a set. Also slowboy always has good deals for things like that. Thats crazy though about your friend who hit 320whp with stock injectors...i cant say i've seen that.

Generous dyno?

Haha, i don't think so, the guy who tuned his car for him was a friend and he also dynoed the car for him too.

On another note, i also heard that the 95 talon ecu's are better than the later year 2g's; is this true, if so why, and should i look into finding a junked 95 and get the ecu out of it to put into my car?

Not with stock fuel pressure. The pressure was bumped with a much bigger than stock pump. Which is a common trick I use all the time. But not with stock injectors with stock pressure or stock fpr.

yeah i just dont see how you can even support enough boost with an entirely stock fuel system to hit 320hp....atleast not with driving it more than 2feet. as far as the ecu.... correct me if im wrong guys but most people feel they are better because they come with the e-prom ecu which is prime for dsmlink etc...
