I'm not getting boost until I get around 4k rpm. And that's where my car starts to bog down and make popping sounds. It has a 14b turbo. Stock fuel management. Am I hitting fuel cut? I know you guys are going to say BLT. I am sure I have no leaks. Pulled the spark plugs and they are orange. I searched that and saw that octane booster causes that. (which I did add into that tank) My CEL is also on. Still haven't gotten a chance to check that out. Its got a few exhaust leaks.

you need to be more specific, popping sounds could be many things, misfire, backfire, ect. You will be hitting fuel cut if your boost is cranked up too high. Highest on a 14b should be 16 psi. Remember, fuel cut happens for a reason when your ECU tries to save your motor from blowing up. Is your BOV recirculated? 4k seems to be hell of a lag for a 14b, check turbo for shaft play and free spin. As for the CEL light, most of the modded cars have it on. You put a performance part on your car and most likely the light will go on. I hope your exhaust leaks are not before the turbo, as that would explain the obnoxious 4k lag.

fuel cut feels like your hitting a brick wall, its very noticible.

how high psi did you do on your blt?
how is your fuel filter?

I didn't do a BLT yet. Haha..well there is a exhaust leak before the turbo. I still got to fix that. Boost is set at 11 psi. Yes blow off valve is recirculated. I don't know how the condition of the fuel filter. I think it may be the problem. But this never happened. It just started doing this. Car doesn't feel like I hit a wall. It jerks a little.

I'll try to get a video of this.

that leak is the reason it takes so long to reach full boost,
fix it, and be happy you did.

and it could possibly be fuel cut, maybe hitting a brick wall is overexaggerated, but its definately uncomfortable.

do you have anything to log with?
DO A REAL BLT
fix the preturbo exhaust leak, and see if the problem still exists

Yeah, I'll try to fix the exhaust leak. It's the stud on the head. It's stripped. So I have to make new threadings. There's no shaft play on the turbo. I have no logging programs. But I can get the code checked at my dad's smog shop.

check the codes and report back,
oh and never use octane booster, its a complete waste of money.

they dont do anything, iv read on a few articles that there is no power increase, and around a 1 octane boost.:notgood:

plus i dont see any benefits to raising octane rating unless you are running lots of boost and want to keep your motor (thats what race gas is for ;))

I only put it in there because the gas that was in there is old. Plus I got it for free because we own a Gas station. :p Suckers!!

so fix your exhaust leak and get some codes then post back. if the turbo has no play, then fixing the exhaust leak should make the turbo spool up at much lower rpm. get us some codes to play with. after that, go on a highway. at fifth gear, floor the gas, when the turbo starts spooling and you build up some pressure, let off the throttle real fast. does the car jerk in the same manner as what you are experiencing? I doubt that you would get fuel cut at 11 psi on a 14b turbo.... fix the exhaust leak first...hell maybe that will fix both problems? get a wire brush and clean ## plugs. check your ignition wires. if the exhaust leak is fixed and wires are good and sparks spark on ground, and if ECU isnt throwing some dangerous codes, an HKS fuel cut defender might be the way to go.

Did some WOT runs today. Its jerking real bad now. Even when I punch it from 3k you can still feel a little jerk. I'm thinking fuel cut now. Well I'm going to change fuel filter to see if that helps. Still didn't get code checked. Tags expired. Going to pick n pull tomorrow to get parts for my black interior swap.

This is just an update. I fixed all exhaust leaks. Put in higher injectors and a AFPR, tomorrow, if it doesn't rain, I'm going to put in the 190 walbro fuel pump. It runs great! No more CEL or bogging issues. The turbo spools a whole lot quicker and earlier now. I also Installed an AEM wideband. It reads about 15.3 - 15.4 At idle. Is that correct for These cars?

sounds about right.
Curious, how did you find out your exhaust manifold was leaking?
is there some sort of test?

mines been building boost slowly, the power doesnt usually hit until aroun 4500 or 5.

I knew it was leaking because it was missing a stud. I only had 2 bolts that were holding onto the turbo. And my down pipe nut fell off, only one was holding it. Fixed all of it and it sounds way better. But my catback sucks. It had some leaks. Might buy a new exhaust system.

That's way too late. That's about when my car reaches full boost. My car used to do that before I fixed the leaks.

hmmm, well thats when the torque curve hits.

my turbo is held to the manifold with nuts however,
which could be causing it to leak.
how do i check for leaks though? its a lil too hot to feel around down there for air. :D
LOL

Uhh, just feel for leaks when the exhaust manifold is still cold, takes it about 30 secs to really start warming up

at least you got it fixed. also you should have know better than to drive with only 2 boltsholding the turbo on.
