I have 2 Question. I have about 4000 miles on my fully rebult motor and i was shaking the rods(all 4) on the crank and I can move them about maybe an 1/16in.... is that normal???

second, should the cylinder walls look like this. I'm thinking not.

Use kero and 2000 grit emery cloth and those pistons will clean up... Definatley to rich....THats what causes shiny spots... ANd the wiggle int he rods is normal...Its side tto side wiggle ..Not up and down, right?

Cold high RPM runs are bad... Your pistons are designed to be round when warmed up to operating temps. When its cold, oil is thick er and therfore doesn't flow AS good, and your pistons will be out of round when cold. This causes excessive wear and blow by. Not good. I would replace the pistons, but thats up to your budget. If you reuse those pistons, at least re-ring them and hone the cylinder walls. Make sure you are using good oil and not cheap oil, and no more high RPM cold runs. If you have a heavy foot like me, start and warm up the car early. You do need to replace the bearings though (mains and rod), make double sure you get the right bearings. How do the rods look under the bearings?

whats kero? yeah it was side to side.

so you think if i bought the same Topline pistons I'd be ok? I honed the cylinder walls and they cleaned up better then I thought they would, there are slill som hint of lines. I was going to have the crank machine since i think it was pretty close to the service limit any ways. i just looked at the rods under the beaing and on the cap it looks good but there are like brownish/black streaks under the other part of the bearing.

as long as there arent any burrs on the piston you will be ok. The piston doesnt seal so it wont matter. You will need to replace the rings because thats your sealing surface.

whats the difference between emery cloth and waterproof sandpaper

The emery cloth usually comes in roll, so if your working on a bench you could use a long piece of emery and work in "shoeshine" kinda motion so your pressure is applied evenly to the piston..... Plus it doesnt get broken down from the kero.... It'll chew threw the sandpaper..

Toplines and Aries pistons are used in pretty high hp applications all the time so its not that.

You ran out of oil or something plain and simple. I've seen motors completely out of spec that werent as damaged as that.
