well Ive noticed some problems with my idle....I'm not to sure what could be the cause.
plugs/wires/boost leak/carbon build up....who knows?

so i made a video...for you guys to listen to...please take note of how my exhaust at idle seems to stutter. and also the stutter from when viewing the engine bay.

please reply with any ideas on what you think could be causing this...

in a few days I'm going to start trying to solve this...so any tips or place to start could help.

oh one more thing.... the interior lights kinda flicker (dash gauges and floor lights)....its hard to notice but they seem to flicker with the stutter in the exhaust note.

A small boost leak can cause exactly what you're experiencing.
Poor gas mileage, slight stuttering, funky idle. That's actually how I usually know if I've got a loose pipe. My gas mileage will go down, or my idle will sound off. And it's really easy to tell when you let your car idle in your garage.

i am surprised that no one has mentioned updating the lifters..... i had terrible lifter tick and idle surge in my G/f's 96 TSi AWD, bought the updated lifters and it went away... and it never returned.... if after everything you do dosent work look into buying the updated lifters that might solve your problem

how much are the lifters?

they are about 160 for all 16 lifters.. check out slowboyracing.com and they take about an hour to install or if its your first time maybe two or three

OK, I listened to that movie for like an hour....its sounds nice... (i love turbo DMS's ) I bought an Apexi N1 and I'm going to put it in today, I've had it for like 2 weeks already

yeah, your BOV is recirculated....but that is soooo loud.


AHHHH THE TICKING!!!!

That ticking noise, I use Lucas oil stabalizer, NOT the ful synthetic. The reason why they click is because when you shut the car off, the oil sets down, you should only hear it if at all when its cold. If you want to replace them, I eventually just got agrivated at the fact I needed to put something in to fix it, so I went with 3G lifters...just an idea

ok, for your idleing....it can be ANYTHING,

-check your valve cover for cracks at the corners, where ever there is a bolt, you said the were NGK's and when someone says Torque rench involving a valve cover, I shiver. The valve cover is probably the cheapest metal i've seen. all bolts around it should only be hand tightend. If you over tighten, they tend to crack. I went for a tune up and gave someone my plugs and wires and they cracked it, my car idled like crap.

-I can't stress this, hoses, hoses, hoses. Check them ALL. Tighten any you can see

-check a intercooler pipe for oil....your Throttle body could be really full of junk. ( my throttle position sensor went off, I ignored it, come to find out, my bearings in my turbo where gone and oil was eveywhere in my intake, yes of course, my car idles like doodoo)

-I'm not too sure about this one, but someone pleeeeaaase correct me. If you have air in your radiator system, at low rpms, it will idle very horribly. The car is sucking in water and all it gets is air....?

-another thing to keep in mind....correct me if I'm wrong. Once you start putting mods on your car, your introducing your dsm to a change. All cars respond to these "changes" in a different way. Well, as you start putting mods in, I don't think it will idle like it did when you got it off the show case. Scratch this statement...your car is stock.

-as for the o2 sensor...idk, I would think the ecu would be smart enough to say " yeah, something is different here, I'm feeling like crap, let me put my check engine light on...."
