does engine rebuild lose horsepower?

I was talking to a guy from work today about me rebuilding my engine. He told me that i would lose 30-50 horsepower on the rebuild. Is this true or what?

your buddy is an idiot.you lose like 10 or so untill your rings seat,then you have more hp than you started with because everythings fresh.

Depending on the condition of your engine you will gain some HP because you will be getting better compression.

. That is funny. Now I'm never going to rebuild my engine cause I can't make it any faster. Ha ha ha. Go with Timloomis (though I don't know about his opinion on your buddy). Depending on what condition you were in before rebuild, you may lose a little power at first, but after break in you should have more.

if you rebuild I agree you will gain after break in period, . bore , deck and hone properly. with all plates in place ,
