Do I need to change the gasket if I take off the throttle body elbow?

Must I replace the gasket if I take off the throttle body elbow? I have never taken one off on a dsm but I know with some other cars the gasket just falls apart or is too compressed to work again if removed.

It's that thin cardboard/paper stuff, so it will probably be junk. Technically you should always replace them, but if your's happens to come off intact, I don't see why you couldn't get away with it if you spray it. You need to BLT it afterwards anyways to make sure.

i dont see a reason why to reuse it. Its cheap and alot of places have it. Better to do it, than ending up with a problem.

If you are building a car that will handle a lot of power, why not spent a little bit more money and have it done the safe way.

If they don't tear, I reuse them. Just coat both sides with a thin layer of RTV.

I hate that the nearest dealer is about 45 minutes away but I ordered one.

Hell, I reuse my valve cover gaskets and the main gasket is torn at a cam hump and it doesn't leak.

You might have a metal gasket. The few 2G's I've worked on all had metal TB gaskets. I don't know if all 2G's have them or just certain ones. If you have one and it's stuck to the TB try not to bend it when prying it off. Replacing with new gaskets is best but I've reused the metal ones with a thin layer of RTV on both sides and they sealed just fine.

Mine was metal, but even with RTV I couldn't get it to seal. It's too cheap a part to not want to just replace for comfort of mind.

Just go with new gaskets is how it boiles down to it. If you have the money just buy new 1s and you will feel alot better about it. There are very few gaskets that i ever reuse. Even the rubber valve cover gasket. Yea it may look good to go back on. But to the naked eye there may be a small imfraction in it and there will just be wasted time and money later on.

I dont even use a gasket. I use rtv on my throttle body elbow. Took mine and sanded it flat and just apply a thin layer and it seals to 32 psi. Please note: this is on my setup. To each their own.

Dont get a felpro paper gasket... they wont last if you do take it off and they are crap anyways. Get an OEM metal gasket and they are reusable till they get old.

Throw on some gasket maker and make sure you have enough washers for it to seat right and tight.

If I'm putting a 1g turbo throttle body that's bored to 62mm on my 2g do I need a special gasket, or just use a regular oem 1g turbo tb gasket? Do I need to cut the gasket back a little? I've never had my tb off before so I don't know what to expect.

i used both 2g metal gaskets on my 1g TB and its works fine, i didnt even trim anything. as long as you didnt change your intake manifold...
