Ok, to take off an oil filter can i use just my hands or do i need a tool to do it? Sorry this is a dumb question, i am just curious

Just your hands. Or if it's really tight, and you can't grip it, they make little gripper things that will tighten around it. but, you should be able to get it off with your hands.

Also, many oil filters now have some size of hex on the top that you may or may not be able to get a wrench on to help.:thumb:

I can never remove my filter with my hand although they're always hand tight when installed, just get yourself a $6 filter wrench and be done with.

I just use my hands. Sometimes it's a little tough to get off, so I have to grip it with stuff occasionally.

Pick up a filter wrench, they are cheap. Or get a piece of ruber you can wrap around the filter which will make it much easier to take off by hand.
