Ever since i saw Gofer vinyl wrap his red 2g i was so envious on how great the two-tone looked on it. I was really considering buying some wrap and copying the infamous trend-setter. But i was not sure on how it would look on my Silver 2g, so i cheated :D. I bought two cans of plastidip and went to town!.... It came out pretty good, there are some rough spots here and there because i ran out of paint. But the real question is....HOW DOES IT LOOK? What do you guys think about this color combo? Should i keep it and finish the job, making it all smooth? LMK :thumb:

It's all in the prep of the surface before spraying Plastidip and also the time between coats. If you prepped the surface well, i.e., claybar and dish soap cleaning it with Dawn then it will adhere well. Time between coats should be 10 minutes, 3 light ones and a 4th heavy one has given me good results.

Take a day shot of it and thanks for the compliments Dan.

I'll be rolling into MOD this year with a Plastidipped roof too. :p :shhh: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/appearance-interior-exterior/439955-roof-changes.html

So you just did all the prep work using the above mentioned soap water and claybar? No wet sanding or anything?

And what did you get two cans of? This stuff?

Definitely take some daytime sunlight shots, I'm curious to see how it comes out. And I'm curious as to what it'll look like a year or two down the road. It seems like a decent and cheap way to cover some of the rough spots of a car.

That's the stuff and that's the prep, it protects the paint under it too which is a plus. I sprayed my hatch and left it on for 5 months and, after a friend scratched it with his nails as he was saying "this stuff holds up well", I peeled it up and the paint under it was clean as the day I sprayed it.

To do a roof/hatch I'd get three can's...

Here's a thread showing what it looks like if you do it correctly. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/hangout/382882-plastidipped-my-car.html

I had to ask because it just looks too easy to get a decent looking paint job. I guess the only con is that you don't get that glossy or metallic luster. I wonder if you could spray over the Plastidip with a clear gloss enamel and get a "farmer's method" gloss finish?

Definitely fits the average DSMer budget LOL

Interestingly enough, having gone through 8 cans of the stuff. Surface prep happened to be the LEAST important factor.

But don't put it over dirt and shit.

The plain clear spray paint will crack in short order, turn yellow and look nasty. I've not seen anyone use the clear plastidip product other than the guy who used black on his window trim and then the clear over it and it came out looking better than factory..at least as far as bad pictures can show.

Haha, yeah man it really is just that easy. Take your time with the prep work, i rushed mine a bit because i really wanted to see how this color combo would look. They cost about 2-3 bucks a can at home depot, which is the cheapest place i can find them. But if your going to be doing your whole car, which has been done plenty of times. I suggest you look into one of these kit: DYC Home - Plasti Dip For Your Car - Resources & More at DipYourCar.com NEW Glossifier

His price's are a bit high, but he gotta make some sort of profit i guess. Or you could buy the kit piece by piece.

That's unreal. ACE Hardware sells them for $8 and HDR doesn't even carry them at my store!

And damn, what a business opportunity..DipYourCar. I would like to have been the guy who called up plastidip.

Update with pictures!... Well i think i am really liking the way it looks. I took some better pictures for you guys to form an opinion on how it looks. I also went to Home Depot to buy some more paint, AND.... Prices went up and they were all out of stock. So forget my statement above about it being 2-3 bucks, it more like 5.98 a can now SMH. I guess they have really picked up in sale since i last bought these for 3 bucks, any-who pictures:
