My brother bought me 20w-50 oil and i wondering if it will be ok in my engine??? my car has 200k miles on it...should I put it in or combine it with thinner oil??? no not at all...

I had 20w50 at one point. You'll see decreases in fuel economy. Is it motor oil or are you talking diesel oil? I dont know the major differences between the two.

I was wondering the same thing.. I get a good price on diesel oil from work that almost all run Holset's.. .
Hopefully some more knowledgable people chime in, I don't know the difference between diesel oil and regular oil but I'll look it up.

I've been running Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 for the last few months now. High in detergents and zinc? Sure thing! :thumb: My motor is squeaky clean and my bearings are happy. Fully synthetic and, depending where you buy, just as much, if not a few dollars cheaper than Mobile 1. Walmart carries it. I think I paid $23 after taxes.

Diesel oil isn't bad for gas engines, its not based on just oil viscosity alone, there is many other factors that make it for diesel engines, such as the detergents in the oil, mainly for soot control, also diesel oil has a higher zinc content than regular oil.

Your main brands of that oil is, Shell Rotella, Mobil Delvac, and Chevron Delo, and a few others.

Most of your diesel engine oil is 15w-40

Your engine will actually benefit from the higher zinc content, zinc in oil helps with cold starts and help keep things lubricated while oil pressure builds up on start up

It might not be a good idea then. With 200,000 miles all that built up gunk will come off with the extra detergents in diesel. From what I've been told thats not a good thing.

You cant be sure his motor is dirty just because of mileage. If the maintenance schedule has been followed, and good oil has been used, the motor could easily be cleaner than yours. Hell I bought mine with around 100k on it, looked like it rolled right off the factory floor.

Two of the worst oils you can have in any vehicle imo is Castrol and Quaker State, I know I'm probly gonna stir something on this but I can post pics of many engines I've rebuilt for people that swore by those 2 brands, Pull off the valve covers and most of the time you can't see the valve train because of sludge deposits covering up everything
I wouldn't use either one even in a lawn mower

I gotcha joe, but I don't know what his maintenance schedule is. I wasn't bashing his engine. Just throwing out a thought.
