diesel sound

I have a 92 laser 2.0 nt.133,000 miles.From idle to 3,000 rpms it makes a loud diesel sound coming from the rh side of the head.You can hear it in the car but right at 3,000 rpms it quits..drops past 3,000 and starts again.Any ideas?Thanks

ok can i just remove the balance shafts or remove the belt?thanks
