I just installed a head that i had rebuilt.
Got everything back together and fired it up for a sec.
I have a ticking from the rockers.
Everything is torgued properly, was i supposed to prime the lifters before i installed them?
Thanks for the help
Jay

You should always prime the oil system when key components are taken off. The ticking will go away though when enough oil pressure is built up. How long did you leave it running?

what you do is leave your v/c off and disconect your coils and make some one try to start the car so the lifters can prime after they prime put everything back and redy ;)

I left it run for maybe 15 seconds, the girlfriend said there was oil pumping up in the valve cover when it was running. I'll let it run a little longer then and see what happens.

yeah your fine dude, let it idle till it gets warm, let it idle down, check all your hoses, lifter tick should go away, Check for any leaks, idle for about 5 more minutes, then start drivin her.

Ok i let it run for about 15 minute total.
Still has some ticking, i'm gonna pull the valve cover off and check the torques again.
But it's all good i have till friday before my timing cover gets here.
So i have the time to pull it back apart.
Should i do anything special since i'll be tearing it back apart?
Thanks for the help again, it was nice hearing my car running after 9 weeks of being down.

let it run longer, mine took about 25 minutes to stop ticking. The first time i bled my lifters and installed cams i thought my timing was off and took out all my valves the ticking was so loud but it went away as soon as the lifters had oil in them again. I find it helps to keep your rpms around 1800 go 2k for a little to help get your oil pressure up.

yeah, there is a step by step process to try to relieve lifter tick/ collapsed lifters in the service manual...I think you slowly rev from 1000-3000-1000 rpms within like 1 minute or something....Should here it just click off. LOL

Ya i have been running it and i think with the hood on it will be quite.
I'm just being paranoid, i have most of the ticking gone.
But Thank you fo rthe help guys i didn't want to start it until you guys said it was normal.
Now i can't stop turning it on.
Timing cover will be here tomorrow and hoping to drive it tomorrow night.

:thumb: Awesome i got my cover from DSM Graveyard and it's on and running.
Did need to tweek the cover a tad but i'm not sure that because my tensioner is sitting in the wrong spot.
Thanks for the links worked great
