I was going to post this is the turbo tech forum but yahno..cant. So here's the deal. I did a boost leak test yesterday and i was loosing pressure through an injector seal. Even though they were brand new I played around with it and now they're air-tight. Did another blt today and air was just leaking like crazy out of the snap ring that holds the bearing housing and compressor housing together. So I just though, okay cool not too bad to replace an o-ring..Well I pop the turbo apart see this.. It looks like a hole..sorta deal, not quite sure what/ or how it happened. However I have seen some turbos with a hole there to hold wastegates etc but not that go completely though. As you can see by the hole I could only hold roughly 4psi on the blt.
I know this "probably" isnt normal
but i would like to put my mind at ease with some comments. I know a very good welder/machinist that actually fixed a decent sized crack on the compressor housing of an old turbo I had. I'm going to show him and see if its fixable. Only thing I can think of if he cant weld it is to bore out the hole and plug it with miniature bolt to get me by. I know thats cheap but I dont want to upgrade yet..just bought the car last week and i would just like to get it running first
