Anyone know if these remans from Detroit axle are good quality? I would assume so since they offer lifetime warranty. I know many here buy on rock auto just not sure the manufacturer or quality comparison.

AVOID.

I would love to learn how. Want everything to look new going back on the car if not new.
I must warn you, it's not for the faint of heart. Probably one of the more difficult rebuilds I've done on my DSM besides the engine and trans. It took me several tries and two seal kits. I messed up a seal installing the rack assembly when FSM called to "Cover rack serrations with special tool" (19-34/19-35). My second try, the "special tool" ended up being some electrical tape. Basically the teeth shredded the inner seal the first time around.

Yah looks involved but I like figuring things out. As much as I do would still love a professional rebuilt one to slap in and save time. Anyone know about the Rock Auto options mentioned above?

I can't speak specifically about reman racks, but in general the reman stuff I've bought from RA or similar places has been hit or miss. A rack & pinion is a lot easier to mess up than a brake caliper, but they managed to screwed up one of the calipers I recently bought. They like their Ugga Duggas and sandblasters.

I've had much better quality components by rebuilding my old OEM stuff vs some off the shelf reman part.

Understood, so the old adage if you want something done right….applies here as well. Makes sense. Thanks.

Everything is honestly a hit or a miss at random times with parts manufacturers except OE. Different batches, rebuild contracts, parts and personnel availability where OE manufacturers have to keep a standard and tend not to produce faulty products.

Hit or miss is the last thing I want on this build.

You can send it out to Eaton Motorworks to get depowered and eliminate the lines, pump and bracket.
No I want to keep all the creature comforts as much as possible especially the power steering. Rarely going to drive it and when I do I want it pleasant, you know as well as fast. If I change it too much it won’t be the car I fell in love with.
