destroker cams

It depends on what you are trying to acheive.

You still want torque, or are you willing to keep the rpm's high all the time?

For maximum power 288's would be best... the gsc 274's should work just as well

the "advertised duration" is different from company to company... you should be comparing lift and duration...

272's would also work great, especially if you plan on driving the car in the "gas-sipping" zone... But you should retard both cams, although it's not completely necessary... aside from cam timing, 272's should be a lot easier to tune as well

unless you are wanting to replace springs, and race your car on the strip, most dsmers are going to reccoment 272s as the most agressive you will want for the street. In theory, it is a personal call. For instance, I usually drive between 2-4k rpm at anyone time when DD to work, merging on the freeway, ect.

272 handle mid range rpms great, without loosing torque at the lower rpms. Now if you were drag racing your car, you have a redline limit of say 7k, you are going to be in the 5k to about 7k rpm range usually, and the 288s will give you better power.

Do i do that on the street? maybe once a month. Again, all your choice. I'd take 272s. BC and HKS are probably of the tested better cams for our cars.

ok well i realize that 272s will make the best daily driver but you have to realize that this engine is capable of 10k+ so i really dont want to be robbing it of anything in those ranges. the 272's would make a decent cam but im thinking i need something a little beefier. ive already got the race head with dual ferrea springs and retainers. i'm thinkin im gunna sell those and get some bee mads from ffwd. as long as it is daily driveable even if it is not the most comfortable thing.

At least BC 272's (longer than HKS).... I see where you're going, just get the biggest ones, with some cam gears, you'll be able to advance for torque if you find it necessary

288's are a waste of money if your only revving to 7K, even 8K there just starting to get going. Not trying to knock you but I think your recommendation may be not worded correctly if I can say it like that. To the OP, what are you planning on revving to and how often (no one builds a destroked motor for torque).... Look into the GSC s2 cams, as seen here...

your spring choice (FFWD's) will work great. The GSC s2's are very street able cams (not very much vacuum at idle but who cares about idle if your building a 9K+ rpm motor....

spoken like a pro

and you can set the idle to 2k if you have to

Adjustable cam gears will be the key to getting the power curve where you need it

ok well yeah its a daily driver as of now but like i would like to make it a drag car someday when i can buy another car. but im not exactly a guy that likes to do things in steps. like i dont wanna deck my car out in step one and then replace all the stuff i did with step two if you know what i mean. i guess stages wouldve been a better word. but anyways as long as it will daily drive i dont really care about the quality of that. i just wanna make the domestic guys around town cry.:thumb:

you dont need a 9k+ rpm motor to make them cry...a big!!! turbo and some good tuning an they will see nothin but your tail lights LOL... But hey just my opinion
