Hey whats up yall!!!

Well its finally time to get my exhaust upgrade after getting my 97 gst about a month ago. I've been reading alot on all of the different brands trying to get some insight on all of them. One last thing I want to know before purchasing is who do you guys think makes the deepest sounding exhaust? I know there will probably be a numerous amount of opinions which is why I will ask you to please back up your answer with a soundclip if you can. Thanks a bunch!!!

ok newbie.. take it easy.. 3" exhaust best for gsx i take it.. i dont like spending lots of money aftermarket exhaust systems but never had a boosted car before either.. i dont want those god damn honda civic noise exhaust(muffler) when i get my custom exhaust built.. any tips would be appreciated thanks... :thumb:

Ok newb. First fill out your vehicle profile, in this case it doesn't really matter but for the other million questions you're going to ask it make it easier on us. No matter what exhaust you go with it will not sound like a Honda. Dumptruck is more like it.

Why is it that we can never get even one actual sound clip on these threads? Don't you guys have digital camcorders?

I want to hear it! We need to have a little sound library like, 1g w/ rnr, 2g w/ therman no cat, etc...

Will someone plz post a clip of a thermal or a buschur. I have not heard either one, but i really want to.

Yes, will someone please post a clip of a Thermal? There isn't a single clip on this entire forum. Why is that? It seems that everyone who has one says "i'll try to get a clip posted".....well try harder!

I think it may be that most people don't have a host for the video. I should have my camera back sometime soon and can get clips of the ATR, Thermal, and whatever my friend has on his GST.

I will take some audio of my thermal on my Gs-T when i get some time soon. Also the site is not letting me upload photos. I tried to upload them in this thread and even in my gallery and it won't work.

Does anyone know possibly a part number or which specific Magnaflow muffler (or resonators) that Thermal R+D uses? It would pretty much sound the same as long as it was some 3 inch piping right?

What he said. I've been trying to find out the part number for forever. Maybe if we call them, they will tell us..??

I'ts probably just a 6" or 7" diameter round body muffler...

Look at the catalog and get the closest thing you see. The core design is the same on all of them..

www.magnaflow.com

They also have a catback... With sound clips. Nope looks like they quit making them for 2g Turbos.

part #11249 is the Magnaflow muffler I have. It's much deeper than anything else you're gonna find that is not restrictive.

sound clip sounds good, i test drove the gsx today for the first time. like what i felt and it drove smooth for being 8 yrs old. only problem i had with it was when i popped the hood right before taking it for a ride, there was oil leakin from the valve cover..

Doesn't matter, I call chicks dudes too...dude. :D Dudeness...Duder..El Duderino, if you're not into the whole brevity thing...

So has anybody actually figured out what exactly makes the TR&D exhaust the deepest?? Or is it really just the muffler??

I have an HKS Turbo catback on my Talon with a custom 3" Vibrant tip. I always thought it had a nice deep muscular sound to it. I can fire her up when I get home tonight and record an Idle clip with my Digital Camera if you guys don't mind a QuickTime movie.

Camera sound is pretty good though.

Sweet..remember to rev it! :D

Okay, here's a clip of my exhaust. Forgive the darkness but this is a quicktime video that was taken with a digital camera (not video camera) using it's movie clip mode. My garage needs better lighting but you're here to hear a sound clip, so... :p

I let the car warm up for a few minutes and then started the recording. I revved it a little a couple times, the first is 2000 RPM and the 2nd is about 3000 or so RPM. I didn't want to really get on it and piss the neighbors off or anything... :)

This is an HKS Turbo catback, and the person who I bought the car from hacked off the original tip because it was too big and had too much of a "ricey" sound. He just bolted one of the original metal tips that came on the original catback to the opening of the muffler, and a few months ago I got rid of that and had a Vibrant tip welded on, it has a 3" or so opening and is double-layered. I'll post a pic of the car itself here too.

The link to the vid clip of my exhaust, right-click and save or just play it but you need QuickTime:

Here's a couple pics of the back, showing the muffler and tip:

LOL, the dude abides..

my exhaust (turbo back) is just some 3" mandrel bent stainless i took to an exhaust shop with a magnaflow.. it's louder than my friend's thermal, and almost as deep. at idle it sounds better imho.. at wot, i can't really say how it sounds because of my external o2 dump, it's loud as hell. "i'll post a clip if i get around to it" <g> i spent about $300 on the whole thing, much less than thermal, and i'll never regret not having a "name brand" exhaust. it's just a pipe, you know?

nice rx7 btw, my last car was a wankel =)

Thanks! :)

Oh, and as far as my video goes, if any of you were wondering what all the "smoke" is, it's just steam/condensation/whatever from the exhaust heat. It's cold around these parts!

:p

Finally!! Somebody with a thermal clip. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: I would give a head bowing down as if you were my god but it isn't there!! I think you're the first member to post a thermal clip for an eclipse.

Oh, and blackhalo, it does work fine. Good job and it sounds great.

Now i've done some searching and i'm getting different answers, does the Thermal catback exhaust bolt up to a stock converter? One website thermal bolts up with ease.
This is the website that says it bolts up with ease:

And other Websites say it will not bolt up to a stock downpipe with cat. Who can tell me that you can just purchase the catback from Thermal and not have to purchase a 3'' downpipe. Or will i have to purchase a 3'' downpipe.

Dude just get a downpipe...you can buy one off ebay for like 110 bucks, or have an exhaust shop make you one for even cheaper. Don't skimp! :D I don't get why people would just want a catback on a turbo DSM...save up a little more, & get the downpipe with the catback. Do it all at once.
