Hey whats up yall!!!

Well its finally time to get my exhaust upgrade after getting my 97 gst about a month ago. I've been reading alot on all of the different brands trying to get some insight on all of them. One last thing I want to know before purchasing is who do you guys think makes the deepest sounding exhaust? I know there will probably be a numerous amount of opinions which is why I will ask you to please back up your answer with a soundclip if you can. Thanks a bunch!!!

Magnaflow and Thermal R&D are owned by the same corporation if I remember correctly.

I have a friend with the N1, another with a Greddy, and I have the Thermal. Mine is definatlely deeper at WOT. It is very quiet at idle (good when going past police).

The Greddy is louder at Idle, and much higher pitched at WOT, While the N1 doesnt really appeal to me that much, It is more of a constant sound getting higher with throttle.

The Thermal is more subdued at low rpm's, but the deep sound resonates with a beautiful tune when timing down. At WOT the Thermal definately gives the impression of a faster car than the N1. Perhaps the N1 is just to high pitched, like many of the add on mufflers you see around town.

ad ons..... ?

"fart can" mufflers, $50 ebay specials, ducttape on muffler, Midas $4.50 backdoor special, onedollar####iesuckie.

AKA that kid down the street with with the civic.

i dont consider the N1 your everyday "add-on" muffler, unless you throw it on with the stock piping.

What about the dynomax ultraflo mufflers, anyone have any experience with them? Also, isn't that the muffler that buschur uses in his exhaust systems?

Does Remus make a catback for our cars? I saw a guy with just the muffler and it sounded amazing at higher RPMs. At idle its quiter than stock :thumb:

Another vote for Buscher. I have muscle guys comment all the time on how its the only 4 cylinder they have heard that they like. Oh yeah I guess Im a muscle car guy too, but I dont like it as much as the exhaust on my 98 Cobra. :p :talon:

Quite frankly..I think with a 3" turbo-back exhaust (including a 3" flow CAT) with a large muffler will sound deep no matter what. Don't know what the deepest is, but I can tell you I can start my car to warm it up and hear it grumbling in my house..my Setup?

Megan Racing 3" DP, HiFlow Cat and cheap-ass 3 inch piping from master muffler.

Why is there so little mention of the Dynomax Ultraflow? Buscher uses this muffler exclusively on all of its exhausts. Its without a doubt deeper and louder than the Thermal.
It has a very unique tone thats best described as throaty. Best part of all its realatively cheap, about a hundred bucks for a 3" stainless Ultraflow muffler. I must have set off hundreds of car alarms since I've installed a turboback with an Dynomax Ultraflow three years ago.

The meanest sounding, deepest, loudest exhaust is on my friend's 1G. It's just straight pipe from the O2 housing back with a tip welded on for apperance sake. I love that sound but it would get a little old with daily driving. I have the complete ATR exhaust system and I love it. Sounds great at idle and at WOT. I may be getting a camera monday and I could take some footage so you can hear it.

LoL im not apologizing for nothing peopel who think it is a deep sound are wrong the straight-thur muffler ruins the sounds, it does sound deep for a japanese exhaust though but isnt deep compared to all exhaust systems out there.

Oh yea i know ur on the SoCAL Forums dont forget the valley meet on the 5 :thumb:

This is true, but the straight muffler is better for performance.

performance > sound

I am looking for a 3" catback for my gst and I have 3 in mind, thermal, buschur, and tanabe. I havent heard anything on the tanabe? anyone have this on their car? I dont want anything too loud but i will deal with some obviously since its a 3".

I'm pretty sure its a cop off of APEXi, I think, someone wanna back me up on that one

Then don't get the Tanabe. I have never seen one on a DSM but my friend's Supra has one and that is the loudest exhaust I have heard on a Supra. It sounds really good but damn it's loud.

Ive got the Thermal R&D on mine. Even tho I got the one made for the GST/GSX, it still fit nicely. Im working on getting some sound clips at idle and under a load if anyone is interested. I'll try postin em a lil later.

I really think that the Greddy EVO is the best overall catback available. It looks good, sounds great at WOT and has a nice deep but subdued sound at idle which may be too quiet for some. I have never liked the sound of the N1's they have a sound like a Honda with no cat and a fart can muffler (okay not that bad but sort of in my opinion) and I've never liked the way the muffler is at an angle. I do like the Thermal R&D exhaust also as I just got one for my 1G Talon but haven't had it long enough to base a good opinion. Looks beautiful though. :)

Opinions vary greatly in this subject so get what you thinks looks and sounds best.

I just put my thermal on today and it sounds awesome! It's very quiet with the stock cat and DP, it has a very nice deep rumble to it. i have heard once you do the DP it gets really loud at WOT. i'll try to post pics and a sound clip if i get some time.

Does anyone know possibly a part number or which specific Magnaflow muffler (or resonators) that Thermal R+D uses? It would pretty much sound the same as long as it was some 3 inch piping right?

I have a 96 GSX on that car I have a apex N1 dp, and a Blitz Nur Spec muffler, and custom made 3 inch piping between. That thing is loud as all hell. my friends supra with his exhaust is quieter then mine, I'l also louder them my friends HKS titanium exhaust system on his Galant. Its really freakin loud. :dsm:

I think I've had about every brand of exhaust system throughout the years on all the different DSM's I've owned. Magnaflow race series IS the deepest sounding muffler you can get that won't be restrictive. I have a Thermal on my awd car and it's kinda almost too loud especially when you're on the gas. My Magnaflow on my fwd car is wayyyy deeper then any other exhaust I've tried. Remember to get the race series as it's a straight flow design, trust me, you'll love it. N1 exhaust can suck a cawk in my opinion.

My thermal is rumbly at idle, if you drive normally its not too loud, and it comes ALIVE under WOT.

Sounds mean as shit under full throttle. Especially with catless full 3inch.

ok newbie.. take it easy.. 3" exhaust best for gsx i take it.. i dont like spending lots of money aftermarket exhaust systems but never had a boosted car before either.. i dont want those god damn honda civic noise exhaust(muffler) when i get my custom exhaust built.. any tips would be appreciated thanks... :thumb:

Will someone plz post a clip of a thermal or a buschur. I have not heard either one, but i really want to.
