great sounding exhaust that isn't loud???

ok here's my problem, almost all the dsm's around here have a harsh sounding exhaust,i don't want anything like that on my car. my brother has a s2000 and he went with mugan and its the best sounding exhaust i have heard on a honda period, but its pricey,i was wondering do we have anything close to making our cars sound beautiful, without braking m neibors window from being so loud? i don't mind spending a lot of money on it..........

the two best exhausts I've heard are Greddy and Apexi

I used to have stock downpipe bolted up to 3 inch hi flow cat into Apexi N1, and it sounded great. Was not loud at all, nice tight sound, not all deep and open like those honda exhausts. Then, I got my custom 3 inch downpipe made, with 3 inch flex section, no cats, and on the way up the rpms it didnt sound any different, still not too loud, a nice tight sound, but when i would downshift and let the gear wind down, it was WAY LOUDER. Just recently I got the 3 inch cat totally gutted out, and the car is much MUCH louder both ways.

So all in all, I suggest Apexi N1 or GT...and as long as theres a high flow cat or a resonator somehwere in your system, it wont be too bad...then once you get to a point that you're more worried about airflow and all, you can gut the cat like I did - as for your neighbors...that's something you can't worry about, because no matter what they're going to have something to say. As soon as you replace anything that makes any kind of noise, people talk and complain, and some people don't...it's really hit or miss. I mean think about it, I havent really checked your mod list, but if you are worried about noise, when you get a BOV/external waste (if that is anywhere in your plans), they are gonna talk anyway, wether or not you drive fast in the neighborhood or not, because the people in town are gonna know your car. I'd say just get whatever, I reccommend either Apexi or Greddy PE/SP, and just don't really crank your car in ur 'hood or whatever...good luck man

thanks for all the responds everyone. i've parked the car. so dont have to worry about the awful exhaust. but i have a 3" megan racing dp, no cat, and 3" custom exhaust with a dragger muffler(from ebay).


i haven't found the thremal exhaust on a site. can someone post a link. or PM me one. thanks again

I have a pacesetter high-flow cat with a N-1 catback exhaust... Love it. it has a nice purr with the silencer but without it it is very loud and sounds like it's from the ghetto. l jt. it's just to loud for my taste (thats WITHOUT the silencer. With it, i am very happy)

On my old 95 GS I had a GReddy EVO2 catback w/out silencer, and it sounded beautiful. Nice, deep tone, was kind of quiet when you were just cruisin' and sounded like a jet when you went WOT. Very nice exhaust. I've heard a lot of different kinds, and I think I had the best sounding in my town. Just a very mellow, low sound. It was like the Barry White of exhausts.

I'm getting a custom 3" turbo-back, no cat exhaust on my Spyder soon from an exhaust shop, and I'm buying a carbon fiber 4" tip that has a removable silencer with it, and I'm thinking it should sound about the same.

My wife has a TurboXS exhaust on her RS, 2.5"DP, cat-delete, and it sounds pretty nasty, very very loud.

Maybe, but our cars aren't muscle cars and it looks stupid having a straight pipe on an eclipse. That's why we get tips. I've seen some eclipses around here that have straight pipes, albeit little ones and it looks dumb as hell.

But if you don't care how dumb your car looks, do it. It does sound nice.

cut the N1 muffler off my apexi exhaust and put on a magnaflow race series one. Also made it a true 3" turboback. Deep sound almost like a boxer engine at idle with my 272's in it. And its quieter than the N1

first heard the greddy evo 2 exhaust on my n/a and loved how deep sounding it was, so when i got the gst i got the same exhaust with a megan dp and it sounds mean i like it plus it doesnt sit on one side of the bumper like the apexi does so thats a plus for me. I see to many ricer cars with those that sit on 1 side of the bumper and hate it i think exhaust should sit right in the middle of the bumper cutout but thats just me

I highly recommend custom route with vibrant performance muffler. Nice and deep.

Greddy Evo2 is on my friends 3g and sounds wonderful. Plan on running it on my 1g TSI also.

I like the Thermal R&D, but a cheaper option would be an RRE catback, which they'll make for you using a Magnaflow muffler. I'm having them make one for my 2G to keep it a little stealthy and quiet.

I love my HKS Hi-power exhaust. It sounds great not loud and does not sound like a mad bubble bee like some of those Hondas.

my all timne fav exhaust setup is the stright pipe on EvilTSi. soo seexxxyyyy.




Im running a Bushur 3' catback...dont know how how it is, or what its made of...but it sounds amazing. quiet when it needs to be, but opens up quite a bit when you get on it, and when the waste gate opens!

Your turbo dsm will NEVER sound like a naturally aspirated "Honda" no matter what muffler you run on it. But if your worried about it being too loud here is lots of reading on the matter for ya.
