Is a custom exhaust that loud??

I wanna get exhaust. I have been looking at them for a long time now, but I cannot see paying 700 or more for something I could get at an exhaust shop for like 300. But are the custom ones that much louder? I mean if I get a hi-flow cat and a muffler? Because I don't want it to be extremely loud. Thanks a lot... Oh yeah, a full 3 inch.

they are all about the same in loudness. myy exhaust was $225 after tax. much better than 500-700.

i have a custom full 3" turbo back straight through to the apex n1 turbo muffler, and it sounds very good, nice deep rumble, it's loud when i get on it, but otherwise it's about the same as others... and from what i've seen your looking at 5-700 for catback exhaust... for less than that price you could get turbo back...i'd go with the custom muffler shop exhaust with a good muffler...

So what did you do about the 02 housing? Can an exhaust shop make that too, or should I just buy one from somewhere else? And where can I buy just a good muffler? I've only looked for systems, never just a muffler. Thanks

You want loud? The only thing that affects the noise level is the muffler unless your running with a cat but who does that. There's a muffler made by magnaflow that has dual tips so it looks like the stock GSX muffler, great for sleepers. The only thing is it's loud. I wanted to get it but I hate the highway drone you get with louder exhaust systems.

i had my o2 housing ported and put that on myself... as for the muffler, i had bought my Apex N1 turbo from 1 6 Motorsports... they had the cheapest price out of the other performance shops around here in Illinois

What about the heat protector thing on the downpipe? I'm thinking thats what it is, I can't think right now. But do you need that, or can it just be stainless steel the whole way??? Thanks, sorry I feel dumb now
