Well its getting to about that time where im going to be putting my motor back together and getting everything back into the car so now i have to decide what clutch kit and flywheel i am going to run. I have been reading alot of great stuff about the XTD clutch kits and am really thinking about purchasing one of these. The stage 3 which is a 6 puck sprung disc says it is rated for 295ft/lb and 350 horsepower. I was planning on pairing it with the ACT streetlight 12.5LB flywheel.

My setup is going to be a 7 bolt block with 6 bolt rods w/ arp hardware, evo 9 pistons, ported 2g head, manley valve springs, GYMS racing valve w/ 5 angle valve job, 274 regrind cams, MHI Big 16g turbo ported w/ 34mm wastegate flapper, o2 housing w/ dump tube, 3" downpipe, n1 catback, and k+n filter.

Let me know what you guys think as far as clutch setup goes for this car, this is for a 1999 eclipse GST. Thanks!

What is your budget for the clutch? How much before you say, "That is too much, no way."?

I've got an XTD stage 4 , 6 puck unsprung with a Fidanza 8lb flywheel. this set up works pretty good for my car. its seen about 9000 miles so far and still holding strong. i would keep away from a lower stage one tho, a friend of mine had a boosted integra that destroyed a XTD stage 2 in about 5000 miles.

Ah, I see. Well that was easy. So now you just want to know whether you need a stage 3 or 4? A 6 puck disk is designed to be pretty on/off, there isn't much friction area, making it a good choice for drag racing, but not being very streetable.

well the act 2600 kit is definelty out of my budget since those clutch kits are pricey but do perform well. The reason why i was thinking the stage 3 was this, if a clutch that performs great for the price and is proven by the community, then why not?

As far as the stage 4 clutch goes, i really do prefer a sprung hub so my transmission does not take all the shock that the springs in the friction disc would.

Take a look at the first one.

Low pressure on the pressure plate means more life to your trust bearings! it handles like 500ft torq
with a force of just 2200 clutch. get it and be done with it, best clutch ever for you.

if too pricey get the act 2100 with the Kevlar disc there at tmz, it hadles like 420ft torq.:)

Those clutches are great but are really too expensive for me right now.

The stage 3 XTD that i was looking at is about 150 after shipping and everything

yes i am familiar withthe stage 3 being a stock PP but with a different friction plate. I know the stage 4's have a 2100lb pressure plate with a different friction disc that is capable of holding high ammounts of horsepower/torque.

I actually am about to sell my ACT 2600 and Stepped flywheel (within spec for this clutch) and I only have 100 miles on it. I did a 6 bolt swap and bought a twin disc.

well you can say im going to encounter problems with the XTD but have you personally used them? and there are tons of posts about people having problems with their ACT's and other clutch companys.

Act disks not pressure plates and some people are just dumb when comes to adjusting the clutch, im not saying anything about XTD i was just trying to help you but never mind.

Very true and, no, I have never used one so I wont comment on them. My personal experience, along with my close friend, with ACT has been a pleasant one. It sounds like you have answered most of your questions, now all you have to do is call a few shops and try and get the best price.
Here is another thread you should check out: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/288797-f1-racing-vs-xtd-clutch-ebay.html

From what I have been reading the stage 4 XTD is unsprung, you would have to mix and match.

yea i think that is what i am going to do, get a stage 4 xtd pressure plate with the stage 3 sprung disc and call it a day. Guess ill have to give xtd a call tomorrow when i get a chance.

As far as flywheel weight goes, what would be an ideal weight? Is the 12.5lb one good, or should i go lower?

i have no experience with a 12.5lb flywheel but i have the 8lb on my car. it idles good and revs quick.I heard that if you talk to XTD they will give you a Stage 4 with a Sprung disk.

Ah okay, i was decidingon either that act flywheel which comes out to around 250 shipped or a 8lb fidanza which is only 170 shipped....

And thats great news about xtd, ill definetly give them a call tomorrow!
Just gotta figure out the flywheel situation now

To be honest I would leave the stock flywheel, what purpose do you have for lightening the flywheel?
