dead car

ok guys i've looked and found noooothing. my car started bogging down recently and dying. so i've had it parked, and now it doesn't get electricity. (put the key in the ignition and nothing) took the battery to the dipshits at auto zone and they say it's fine. but... nothing in my car is getting a single stitch of electricity. so on top of it not running well, or at all, i'm not getting electricity. any ideas? thanks

Check all of your fuses and make sure the battery tests at least 10.8 volts with a load tester. It sounds like the alternator or battery one maybe bad if you were experiencing low voltage before that can cause one to run really bad.

don't forget the simple stuff, like corroded battery terminals, or a bad ground.

ok, took the battery to auto zone, they tested it out and it stayed at at least 12 volts the whole time. i know it isn't the alternator, i've had the problem before, and just replaced it recently. could it be a fuse or something that isn't allowing the car to get electricity??? i'm stumped.

put your battery back in and check all of your connections to it, thats where it has to be, or its a fuse, and like previously stated check the ground

i put the battery back in, and had also checked the ground and the other connections to it. they are all tight, clean, solid connections. are there any particular fuses or relays you think i should check?

ok, here's what i've found. the ground wire was not connected well enough. **i know i said it was, my mistake, heh.** so... now my car gets electricity.

i've checked every fuse imaginable, and they all look good. the ground wire to the battery is now set, as are the other connections to the battery.

my problem now is, that i can turn the key in the ignition to the "on" position. (i can listen to radio, lights work, etc. etc...) but if i try to turn the key anymore (turn the car on) all the electricity shorts out.

what do ya think this may be?

This happens to my car too, but I have some sort of crap alarm in it. Do you have an alarm? Mine seriously does this half the time ha. Also double check the wires are tight on the terminal itself. I've done this before also. I felt like an idiot.

no, no alarm system. my car doesn't run, i don't think it's car thief material. anyway... yea, the terminals are all tight and all that good stuff. hmmm... i doooo have a very tempermental cd player that cuts out sometimes. could that be the problem?

Check and see if you have any wires that are grounding out...

usally when it turns over and lights go out means your battery u ###### drained it, try and have someone jump it and let it run a little bit. Hope this helps/.

eh It sounds like now the starter may have took a shit. If its draining the lights your getting a HUGE draw from somewhere, probably the starter. See if it feels warm after turning the key a few times. Also not some of the Fusible Links (large fuses with see through tops) will be bad but its hard to tell by looking check them with a continuity tester or Multi Meter.
