I just got home from a friends house and he had a simple serial data cable to hook to a laptop, I couldnt find anything on the boards soooooooo I asked him to borrow the cable and he agreed. One end has the serial plug shell and the other has 2 wires, one that splits in 2(has 1 cable comming out but has another connector daisy chained onto it. Im good with electronics and want to make the cable myself, there is not chip or anything in it. I poped the connector shell off and its just a resistor which I got the value from and there appears to be a diode of some sort resembles a zener type. I was wondering If anyone knows what that value would be so I can buy the part and also the better thing would be a schematic.

to see if were on the same page what do you have for the resistor value

10k ohm resistor man and the 1n4148 diode is righ on point like he said you go it just make sure you have the diode in the right direction when you make it or it wont work.

they work for all or most software. and yea liuke he said 1/4 5% tolerance

mind listing some of the different software apps and weather they are free ware or not? :D
