I used this clutch for maybe 1500 miles, and it almost took my transmission with it! I had to PRY the TOB off the input shaft of the transmission... Luckily it didnt do any damage to the PP, flywheel, or transmission. but it came WAY too close! :banghead:

Looks like your clutch went out and tried to take everything with it. You gotta love these cars

I used an OEM Mitsu TOB.. i made sure of that. the springs came loose and mangled the metal around the input shaft so bad that the TOB was stuck on it, thats why i had to pry it off.

It would have to take alot of beating to that clutch. I have 6k on mine and no problems whatsoever. Best clutch I've ever had and It's got probably 100 launches and 3 passes at the track.

I had a Sprung street disc in my talon before the auto swap and beat the hell out of it and never had any problems. I did use an oem tob though.

Some people seem to have problems with these and some don't. :hmm: I have the same disc with an ACT 2600 pressure plate and have had no problems in the 5 years I've had it while putting approximately 9k on it.:)

I have personally used and installed in my own cars 4 acts with sprung discs and never had a problem all street discs.

I ve seen this happen with a cheap ebay disc to a buddy of mine.

Any time I've seen this happen they are always never brand new clutches, they were purchased used. I'm sure with any manufactured product there is a small chance of this happening to a brand new product.

The disc is dirty because of all the crap the broken parts stirred up, no to mention i had to limp it home after it ####ed up. I didnt launch this once, rarely drove it hard. I just think some of thsese discs are deffective. and i was unlucky enough have one. Either way, im over-nighting a solid 6 puck, and TOB from STM.

Just wondering why you state in the subject of this thread to NEVER use an act sprung disc? Have you had mutiple disc's fail or something? Was your car launched real hard or the clutch dumped? from the torn metal of the spring housing it looks as though there was excessive torque put through the disc which ripped the rivets in the steel. How can you blame the manufacturer when all that is known is that somehow the disc seperated and tore some things up. Any sprung disc I'm sure would do this with the right amount of force. Not trying to bash you, Just hate to see the manufacturer blamed for the failure so quickly.

I think maybe you did just get a defective one if you didnt drive it hard. I had their 6 puck with a 2600 on my car and a couple of the tabs that held the springs in actually broke off and spat springs back into the pressure plate. Granted that could have been my fault because I dont think I ever got used to that damn pressure plate. LOL. On the other hand though, I had mine in for several years and never had problems until then. Think you just got a bad disc.

Kinda of leaves me to believe maybe you install it wrong. Just a thought!LOL And yes I do hear of some unlucky few who ran into act clutch problems. But I've own two act clutch for a total of over 47k miles and I never once had a problem.
One that was install new in my civic which was abuse like crazy. Went about 45k miles with no problem. and my eclipse right now which hasn't even went through a oil change since Ive installed it.

Well did you get the clutch brand new.... and if you did why don't you give ACT a call and see if they can set you up with something like getting you a discount or just maybe your money back, if they even do that, just a thought.

I tend to agree, but maybe it was defective, crap happens.

That street disc has been run on 9 second cars. It won't last long at that power level, but they generally just glaze, they don't fail structurally.

If 600whp cars cutting 1.4 60' on slicks can run that disc, I consider it a proven part.

Ok, it was kind of used, but by me, i let a friend drive my car and when he tried to shift from 1-2 at 7k it grinded like a mofo and needless to say didnt go into gear, anymore. He broke the shift fork. So i got another tranny to hold me off till i can get the other one rebuilt. I used the same clutch that was already in the car, and i dont launch it or drive it very hard at all, maybe a 2-3 pull here or there but nothing serious because this tranny needs to last me, which is why i kept the sprung disc in, i figured reducing the impact on the drivetrain couldnt hurt. It only has a total of maybe 15-1600 miles but its over a year old. I know this didnt fail all at once, just sucks, 3 of my friend shave had spring pop out on them. The problem got gradually worse, if you look at the one spring the top of it is bent over completely, i think that 1 or 2 popped out and got caught in the PP and jammed it all up mangling the plate that holds the springs. I really have nothing against ACT, prob just bad luck. But even if only 10% of them do this that is still too many.

Its not the disck, its the spring, but they now sell solid street discs.

My Clutchmasters FX400 6 puck did this to me recently. Clutch is a year old but it was a jackstand racer most of that time so I'm probably screwed on warranty.. we'll see what I get for news since I sent it back.
