2G Cylinder wall damage

What do you guys think of this mark in the cylinder wall? I just got this thing all ready for the head to go on and found this and I can feel it with my fingernail but I don’t know if I’m just over reacting or if it should be bored again. It’s probably been to long to go back to the machine shop and say something . Really didn’t wanna have to take it all back apart unless it could ruin the engine.

That little hole may cause damage to the rings and you'll burn oil pretty quick or worse destroy the cylinder by breaking a ring. Id recommend to get it repaired.

On another note though I would run it personally because I dont care about the risk .

That’s where I’m at, think I might just send it for research purposes and get another block to build while im waiting to see what happens

Are you sure that its not just paint? as long as its not a line down the wall it should be fine, it will actually hold oil if its a pit and wont cause oil burning of any appreciable amount, send it.

Yeah some sort of flaw. If I did decide to take it back and they fix it. Would they have to sleeve it or something in order to use these pistons?

Yes a sleeve would probably be needed as that looks too deep to machine out (bore it) plus you would have to have a whole set of pistons if you bore it. It looks pretty deep to me.

Yeah it definitely catches my fingernail when I run it across so I’m gonna see what another machine shop will charge to do it. The first one said between 1200-1500 which sounded like a lot. Especially since it’s a stripped block , just got the crank pistons and rods they gotta take out

I haven't had a sleeve done in YEARS but that sounds high to me. Check with several GOOD machine shops and compare pricing. I would have guessed $500.

The one that did this engine work( boring and install rotating assembly) charged $400 but forgot to resurface the head for the mls… it’s hard anymore to find good machine shops. Let alone ones that will care and check surface roughness. Do you run a machine shop?

I don't have my own machine shop but I use a local one and tell them exactly what I need, want and expect. On a head resurface, I ask for a RA50 or better on the finish (that is a very fine finish made for MLS gaskets).
On a bore job, I tell them what PTW clearance I need. I am lucky to have a few in the area. None in my home town but I will drive an hour if needed, like to the shop that does my balancing.

Yes they are e85 pistons if that has anything to do with the numbers
