So my timing belt went out not to long ago I believe. But me and my buddy who knows alot but not all about DSMs is helping me figure it out.

We are trying to figure out that it was the timing belt for sure, We tried to put the rockers back on the exhaust side of the head because only those rockers are popped off.

But we cant because the valve springs are compressed down so when we tighten the cams they dont pop on like they should because the valve springs are compressed but only on the exhaust side (towards front of car) but the intake side (closest to back) are not compressed but also none of those rockers are off.

Does anybody know why this is? And how to fix it so we can get the rockers back on?

If your timing belt came apart then you probably have bent valves and damaged pistons. Were the timing marks off? Did it let loose while driving? The valves stay compressed even when the cams aren't on? The cams pushing the rockers to the valve is what compresses the valve spring. A good bet your motor is trashed.

There will probably be at least a little valve damage if you were driving when the timing belt broke (and im assuming you were)

Well if there not popping up then there bent valves. Just hope you didn't take all the pistons with it.

My timing belt snapped and I had to replace all my valves and all my pistons. No fun. Damaged pistons, rods, and crak is possible

I had a tensioner fail, took out cylinder #1 out completely, still have the piston with a hole smashed in it and a hunk of valve jammed in it..

I would have to agree, you have some bent valves. Either way your going to have to take the head off and see what damage has been done, I got lucky and got to keep my pistons. Also, I would go ahead and replace the guides while your in there, I know with enough pressure the cast guides will crack and eventually lead to an oil leak. DSM graveyard helped me out when my 93 took out the belt, got new guides, valves, lifters, springs the whole ten yards. Good Luck! :thumb:
