I have my car apart and a refreshed head sitting in my garage. I may as well spend the extra half hour of work to install it while I am there. My question is not related to the mechanical aspect of the installation, but what to do to clean every bit of dirt/foreign object out of this thing before I put it on-its been in my garage while media blasting, air hosing different things, etc. I was thinking brake cleaner? I am not sure if that would be too harsh on the valve seals though. Any input is apprecieated. The head has been ran before supposedly for only a few thousand miles, so it does have a little bit of "stick" in it. I would prefer not to take the head apart (past experience, I am not a machininst nor will I pretend to be). Perhaps degreaser, rinse it with water, let it dry and air hose it? Just looking for previous experience-I would prefer not to have to take the head back to the machiene shop for dissassembly/cleaning.

Have the HLAs,followers and cams been in the head the whole time?

If yes, some purple power, and a hose should do.

If not, the grit may have gotten in the oil galleys, so the plugs need pulled and the galleys brushed out.

Yes, I have just recently (3 days ago) taken out the cams. Everything else has been in place the entire time (including the camshafts, up until 3 days ago). I'll install the cams and degrease it. Thank you

Leave the cams out, pull the Hla out then degreese.

Now take a can of break cleaner and flush out all the oil galleys, including the passage that the head bolt share.

do oil port mod 1 also

Alright will do. Yeah the oil port mod was actually already done to the head when I got it. Thanks for the reminder!
