Cylinder evaluation

I bought my Gvr4 knowing it blew blue smoke and knowing it had low compression is Cylinder one. The previous owner said the leak down test result was the rings in cyl 1. This is what I found after I pulled the head.

Just so that EVERYONE knows. I am we'll aware that the piston is missing a part of it in cylinder 1. Lol

That's normal I think. Is there a difference between cylinder 1 and the rest?

Looks like there's a problem there in cylinder 1. That piston is missing some material.

Cylinder one sure ain't normal. Melted that piston nicely, probably due to running excessively lean. At the very least your going to need one new piston. At the most your going to need to get the block bored out and get oversized pistons. Strip it down and take it to a machinest and see what they recommend.

Yea I was hoping for a bad ring and just hone it at home. I ran my finger across the cylinder and it isn't any different than the rest of the cylinders. I haven't exactly figured out what caused the piston to melt. I even thought that someone may have put the motor together with that piston just to hope for the best.

I just had a Nissan 1.8 with the same problem, I did a quick deglaze on that cylinder and popped a new piston in with new rings of course. Perfect compression across the board after and running like a champ. It looks like you could do the same as long as there's no huge scratches or nicks on the cylinder wall.

I hope I can just hone and replace. I will be using 2G pistons so will need to get the rods machined. Anyone else have an opinion on the cylinders?

With the streaking in the cylinders I would drop a bore gauge in there and check for distortion, taper, and out of round.

That will be a better guide that just your eyeball and finger test.

More so if this is one you are going to keep for some years.

If you are going to the expense of the 2g piston swap, having the block bored and honed will be $100 or less

Yea I'm waiting for a friend to check it out. This was the first time I've ever did anything like this to a motor . I saw your post on galantvr4.org btw. I'm Brunoboy there
