So I've been having issues with heat soak and under hood temps. I decided to have some fun today and make my own hood vent directly above the turbo and manifold. This way in stop and go traffic that heat will escape. I have to say I think it turned out great and works wonders!! Also only cost me about $10 can't beat that! Let me know what you think.

Interesting, I've been waiting to see someone do this to a 1g. Looks like the 2g vent mod kinda... Got any pics of the bottom of the hood? Did you have to cut any of the stock bracing? I think it looks good, but I think it'd look better cleaner... no offense, not trying to hate. I'm just not feeling the rivets. Overall though thumbs up for actually doing it!

It's garage kept. And as for not liking the small bolt heads on the hood they are kind of necessary because by using them I can now quickly pop the hood and attach the cover or rain guard. So yes I made it very functional even for a Daily driver. I agree it doesn't look like a professional job, but it's more for function than looks. I have to say it's the best $10 I've ever spent LOL. And so far it has eliminated my knock issue from heat soak.

Also I did have to cut through some of the under hood brace. And I maybe painting the hood black anyway so the rivits won't stand out as much.

Here's the under side. Again I agree not the cleanest job but for now it works. I can always redo it if I think of a better and cleaner way to have the screen and molding attached.

I've been wanting to do that "evo" look also for getting rid of all the heat but my car sits outside rain snow or shine....I like it though!!! :thumb:

Ahh, gotcha, thanks for the pics. I didn't realize those were actually screws, and not rivets, till you mentioned that. I can respect the functionality in both the use of screws, and the mod itself. And, don't mind me, I'm just an honest person with OCD... I nitpick. (Call it constructive criticism, LOL).
I think David here has a good point with the magnet idea; fast, easy, cheap, customizable...
Ya, I wish I had a garage... I'd like to do something like this.

I have the VIS carbon fiber 1gb hood with vent towards the front. As long as your manifold/chra/hotside etc parts are coated and/or rust proof you dont have to worry about anything. Also good time to switch to stainless manifold to head bolts. I dont have any rust issues there. and I park my car outside rain or shine.
