I have a 99 gauge cluster in my car, grey face, the ones in the picture. Today i install some blue leds on it trying to make it look like the other pictures that have a similar color like the VW but it look really bad. Any ideas how i can make it look the the blue gauge cluster??

I have seen a guy that put red leds on it cluster and it look very nice, the same with a white cluster that a guy use a led ropes to make the numbers very white.

thanks

it is safe to sand the cluster too?? i have see it on some threads, but i;m afraid to do that. thanks

What's with this "ricer" comment scene. Seems like everything original is called rice

Depends on the road you wanna take, my friend put covers on his and used a razor blade to shave the red paint off the needle, it looks really good.

Is the need silver or with the paint gone clear? That sounds pretty cool

its clear and glows whatever the light is under it, its fairly easy if my stupid friend can do it, I've been thinking about putting some covers on my ugly orange ones. Its easier than buying bulbs because you have to buy each specific bulb for all the lights under the dash and it gets pricey somewhere from 1$-4$ a bulb. Thats why covers are easier and cheaper they come in 3 size fits all and are like 2$ for 10 a piece. Also i've seen some lights that people put in glow brighter then the others and then you dont have equal lighting throughout the cluster. All in all covers are the way to go in my opinion for equal lighting and a more balanced glow from each bulb.

Sanding takes alot less time than the razor blade, and is alot safer!:hellyeah:

if you sand the back and use the blue led you WILL get some hots spots take it from me. only time it looks full on even is night.

with that said i bought my leds from superbrightleds.com and went with the 3 light model. sanded the back of the face, and sanded the needles clear ill post a pic as soon as i can. only problem is if you take of needles you gata recalibrate them.

They look good, even though blue's been done to death and I hate it now.

What is really atrocious, and classic rice, is the painted interior trim pieces (white).

Kinda off topic but what are those seats?!?!?! I can only see like 20% of them and very intrigued

the 2 last pics, blue gauge, i get it from the web, so idont know what seats are.

For the guys who thinks that i paint my gauge cluster silver, they are wrong this clustes is the oem 99 eclipse gauge cluster. mitsubishi part number is mr406231, factory it cames with orange bulbs and i want to make them blue =)

Anyone who washes their car or cares how it looks instead of caring only about running 4's in the 1/4 are a ricer around here. I think the stock colors are pretty boring, and when you actually want things like gauges, maybe a radio, and other things that light up to read data off of, why not customize stuff to match? I don't know of too many devices other than gauges that will be anywhere near stock cluster color. The backs of the gauges have a paint on them to color the light. LEDs also do not have very good beams so you will get nasty spots at places.

As for the lights, I like it. Im also one who says to each their own, so do what YOU want/like to do with your car. Ive got the 99 oe cluster as well and I just bought gauges that matched the oe cluster color. So at night all I see is orange!! Except for my radio, which is blue.

I was wondering what led's he was using, thanks for clearing that up..

I really like it..I bet it's super bright tho at night..

they're really not to bad at all. the lense in my cobra is blue (yellowish bulbs making green :D) so i just ran the super whites there and the blue of the same type in my Phantom gauges. The color is vibrant but not to intense. I had C2 gauges at one point and they were blinding. Id say noticeable over normal light but not ricer obnoxious :thumb:

BTW Tom, i dont think thats ricer at all i mean its not an led dragon sticker in the middle of your dash ;)
I think the suttle white accents looks nice.
