After looking at the DIY thread to use a stock catback with the 3" exhaust and cutout, I came up with the idea of using a evo 8 or 9 axle back instead of the eclipse one for flow purposes and retain the quiet characteristics of stock. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't they have a valve operation system to control flow through the exhaust, I'm not sure how it would work but If I were to DIY this and go through with it, would it be worth it. I want to have the quiet for just regular driving but when I want to be heard they'll hear it.

I don't have an answer for your stock Evo exhaust question but I do have a suggestion if you want to be quiet for DD'ing and be heard when you go WOT. A lot of Evo owners out here try to stay off the cops radar by running an aftermarket downpipe and installing a QTP electric cutout before the cat. By doing it your running the OEM exhaust system while your DD'ing and when you want to open it up you hit a switch and it opens the cutout straight off the downpipe.

I would do that but for some reason I just cant stand having the exhaust opened up right underneath my shifter or seat. I want it dumped right after the rear subframe

Gotcha, it was just a suggestion... :idontknow: They also make something you can put in the tip of your aftermarket catback exhaust called an "active silencer." It opens up at WOT but when your not driving agressive it silences the exhaust to sound like your stock, problem is your still running a coffee can out the back.

Thats why I'm looking to do something that looks clean and almost factory, I already have a thermal and don't like the cans coming out the back so I definately want to keep a muffler look to it just somewhat quieter than the thermal is.
