Hey all, just have a little ordeal that I need a solution for.

As we all know, the stock 2g plastic bypass valve is trash. So I replaced mine with an Evo MR bypass valve, because it was a direct swap, and can hold a pretty good amount of boost. I like the way this valve both sounds and performs; so I would like to use this one for the remainder of my build, which will not be seeing boost levels over 25 psi.

The issue I am facing now, is that I ordered a nice ETS 7" intercooler with piping kit used off of another member (who gave me an awesome deal, btw) which included an upper IC pipe with both a 1g flange and bov. The bov looks pretty new, and doesnt look like it has been modified.

The question is: how can I use the Evo MR bypass valve with the current piping, while at the same time retaining the flange for the 1g valve.

Reasoning behind wanting to retain the 1g flange is because I would like to have the option to run the 1g valve in the case that my MR valve begins to fail.

Is there some sort of adapter available that I can bolt onto the 1g flange, and then clamp my Evo valve in?

I can upload photos if needed.

Thanks!

Buy a 1G BOV to 2G adapter, and install it upside down. Install the MR BOV as you would stock because the adapter will have the pipe sticking up for the hose to attach to.

Cracked, this is what I was thinking, too. The only issue that i thought I might run into was that the adapter end of the flange, is made to be clamped into the stock 2g/evo bov flange. So it is the same size as the bov and will not fit the bov flange I an trying to clamp in.

This is in my build journal (1998 Eclipse GSX):
Would love to get this made:

UICP or at least a weld on flange for the EVO MR bypass valve. I feel this would be marketable as this bypass valve is readily available and a proven performer. I have been using this bypass valve with great success in rallycross and track days. I am now able to upgrade my by inter-cooler piping, and would love to be able to use the EVO MR bypass valve.
This is an idea of what I have been able to find. This one deletes the base of the bypass valve to bolt the bypass valve to a 1g/greddy flange.

bypass valve partially disassembled. I would like to see a mount that deletes the hose clamp mount:

Here is another thought. Dissamble the bypass valve (like in pic #3) so you can cut the lower portion to make a flange of sorts to weld in place of the 1g flange that will come on your piping. Then you can bolt the upper portion of the EVO bypass valve to the new flange on the UICP.

Cracked - ok now I understand what you're saying! That should work.

2gmitsueclipse - Glad to know that a Wiseman believes in the MR bov! Also, that I am not the only one who was looking for this.

I suppose I will go with the reverse flange and a coupler. I will post pics when everything is done!

This idea seems like the MR bypass valve would function fine, but may not be very visually appeasing. I tend to be rather picky about having a clean install that looks similar to OEM fitment. Like it was designed to be there.

I agree for certain! That is my whole idea behind this build. I'm still not sure how this IC piping will be oriented.

I'll see how the coupler/reverse flange looks. I was thinking of grinding down the pipe end flanges for both the adapter, and the bypass valve itself. That way I can use a shorter, less noticeable coupler, AND my bypass valve won't be towering outward.

If I'm not satisfied with the look, I'll be trying out the disassembly and tightening it up a bit neater. How exactly did you mount it to the 1g flange? Did you have to drill extral holes? My flange is so tightly welded that I dont think there's much room for anymore hardware. It's basically flush with the IC pipe.

This is the adapter as shown in my previous post:

It is a pretty slick piece.

Is this adapter of yours custom? How did you get it? Thats what I'm looking for.

It is a one-off piece.
As I stated in an earlier response, you could use the actual flange (bottom portion of the MR bypass valve) welded to the UICP to mount the bypass valve. You would have to drill out the existing holes in the upper portion to run a bolt/nut combination to mount it to the flange. I think this would look cleaner in the end.
