I am trying to get my motor together right now and am in a pickle. I bought Crower 64414 cams a while back to go in my motor. I put them in the head today and WOW!

Anyways, now I have come upon another set of cams and cant decide which ones to use. I believe they are fp2's, they have these numbers on them...

101-201-8I
UQ5376-06 cc

101-202-8E
UQ5529-06 cc

If they are fp2's, i've heard its equal to hks 272's. I will be running a 20g on a 2.4 litre at about 20-25 psi and only reving to 7k. Please help me figure out which one's to run.

Thanks, Nathan

They are a pretty close grind, if you are only going to 7k then I would of gotten the 64413's the fp2's and 64414's as well as the 272's puts your power band up to about 4k to a little below 8k.

like i said, if you only going to 7k i would get fp1's, 64413's or 264's. that grind you have is gonna hurt you down low.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Well, I have been building my motor for a while and picked up the Crower's for cheap and then I got the fp2's for money owed to me the other day. So, I now have both and was just wondering which would be the better of the 2.

THanks

My opinion your probably better off with the Crowers, unless your dead set on Forced Performance. I had the exact same cams in my last car and I loved them. I'm building a new motor and it has the 64415's. It's just your preference.

Good luck,
Steve

I actually called forced performance and they said to run the Crower's. Kind of ironic, huh.

Did you have adjustable cam gears with your Crower's? I have adjustable cam gears but Crower said to just drop them in straight up. They said that I could not really degree the cams right with hla's. When I called FP they said to be sure and degree them cause they have installed them and they have been up to 11 degrees off.

I have Skunk2 cam gears, What do you think? Drop them in and get them tuned on a dyno later?

Thanks

If you have the adjustable gears install them, then adjust then on the dyno when you get a chance.

The 272's power range may be about 8k on a 2.0l but on a 2.4l it will be lower due to the increased displacement.

Yeah, I have already put the gears on the cams and put the cams in the head. I just wasnt sure if I could run them straight up on zero until I go through break in and get it to a dyno.

Also, after putting the cams in the head and seeing how far the valves open I am sccared that there may not be enough clearance between the valves and piston.

Thanks, Nathan

Run the crowers. Run the straight up. I have never had a cam lose low end power. if so then there is something really wrong with your tuning. A cam works the same at 1000rpm as it does at 8000rpm.

We run a whole mix of the corwer's/BC's. You will be very happy with them.

Steven

Thanks for the help guys, I just just sold the fp's to friend.

Now all I have to worry about is the piston to valve clearance. I had to have my block decked a little so I guess we'll see what happens.

Just an update. I filled the piston dome up with modeling clay on #1, bolted the head down, put the timing belt on and spun it over. The valves did not make a mark in the clay at all :thumb:

I was just going to say, CLAY IT! Looks like you are ahead of me... You had to great choices there and I bet would have both given simalar results. However I think the FP2's have a better resale value. I would say you are good to go...
20G on a 2.4 should be alot of fun! Now you are gong to need a AWD swap, LOL...

Edit: I just ecked your profile and you have a AWD swap...

Yeah, i'm looking for a quick spooling, fast street car that I can get into the 12's.

On a worse note, I was torquing my head down tonight for the last time and I pulled the threads out of one hole on my block. I am going to try to get a helicoil (sp?) and get that done tomorrow. I could not find a 11mm x 1.25 tap anywhere to chase the threads so I used a 7/16 x 20 and it worked great. I guess i'm gonna use that same size for the helicoil.
