Looking for a general starting point for cam gear settings +/- for Crower 272’s. I know the ideal answer is a degree wheel but just looking for other people’s experiences as a starting point.

Dialed the cams in.
I did this process 5 times making sure it was perfect.

4 degrees off on intake, 2 on exhaust, to zero to spec.

This is what it took for my particular engine to find true zero.
You have to do the same, to know your true zero.

I did 0/0 as a starting point. Miliman13, was that advanced or retarded? Also, Crower says there is 4 degrees of advance already in each cam.
That’s why I left the (resource) so you can check out the details.

And about the BC std timing…
No BC valve train is true when using factory marks.

At factory marked zero you will always be off, that’s why you do the valve train geometry based on the crank and opening and closing events in the valves.

Don’t copy anyone’s specs you have no idea at what degree you will make contact, and doing it blindly will hurt you.

In my thread I show how I verify each degree and the clearance for the whole range of opening and closing events for the valves.

I was able to determine no matter were in the range I am on the cam gears I will never make contact even with thermal expansion accounted for.
