grab yourself some Evo springs and retainers for $70, some Delta's for $250, and be done with it.

yeah you can find springs and retainers pretty much anywhere...evolutionm, dsmtuners, craigslist, etc.

I have no idea why everyone wants the evo springs. I went to a local machine shop with a huge box of them. Out of 30+ springs, only 4 were within spec for new dsm springs, and they were on the very low end of spec. Brand new bc springs had almost 2x the seat pressure, and 130+ more lbs at maximum lift for normal 272 cams.

Did you use new dsm springs or old-old springs? I find that strange...you figure something coming out of an EVO would be nicer.

I used bc springs/retainers in my car. A friend of mine wanted me to put a head together for him with the evo springs, so he handed me a box of them. I figured i would test them all, and use the best 16. But, they were all garbage.

When you setup a head you have to check the springs in a valvespring tester, and make sure you have the proper installed height when mounted in the head. So many people just throw parts together figuring they must be good enough.

Nice point.
