Ok guys long story short im building the shit out of my 91 laser. well i have about 2 grand of parts in the mail. i ordered 272 brian crower cams with obx cam gears well how well will these work for my car im lookin to make so trun NA power out of this thing. the head has a 3 angle valve job, port and polished head, and brian crower single valve springs.

Built in any aspect the N/T motor doesn't make power period. If you can get 300whp you will be near record setting. You could have built the shortblock and turbocharged it for $2,000.

see i dont want to turbo it i want a mean N/A 4g63. i have tons of parts in the mail im just wondering how well would they work cause i ordered them with adjustable cam gears. and i wanted to see if anyone knew what i should degree the cams at... Thanks guys

And I am just for-warning you that there is a reason only 1 or 2 people have built N/T cars. The platform doesn't suppose "mean" power levels. Fully built you will be lucky to keep up with a stock 1g with a MBC. BC 272's with adjustable cams gears are a complete waste. You will need to be running in the neighborhood of 13:1 compression to need that big of a cam on a non-turbo 2.0. And the adjustable cam gears are also going to yield next to nothing HP gains. Your best bet would have been to slap in a set of manual 1g turbo cams.

ok just bringing a point up as a question. if putting a intake cam from 1g turbo will increase HP. why wouldnt even bigger cams add more HP? I dont know it just dosent make sense. i will have around a 10:1 compression when its together. do you want me to type down everything i bought so you could give me some input.

turbo = bought power anyone with a credit card can get it, N/A HP has to be earned !

Have fun and build a nicely done NA !
or be like a sheep and just follow the heard..... your call ; )

Dont worry i already ordered the cams i have tons of parts for this thing. at the end ill post a dyno run vid and numbers cause i have a hook up at a tuning shop in the area. i was just trying to get info on how this is goin to work.

I'd go for incredibly high CR pistons, 2.4L, 2g head, and adjustable cam gears. Don't listen to ANYONE telling you that adjustable gears won't get you HP... because they're full of balogna if they tell yo uthat... LOL. I REALLY want what they're smokin.

I would call up Delta about some regrinds. Maybe they would know what would be best for you.

I would go quite a bit higher than 10:1 for an NA. I would go with 10:1 for turbo.

I think you should've just taken a stock 6-bolt 2.4 and thrown the 2.0 head on it, which is said to be around 12:1 compression (or DOHC 2.4 pistons if you wanted less compression for some reason). You're never going to make enough power to need a 'built' engine without a turbo.
