crankcase cover gasket leaking

ive just bought a 92 gsx and it appears that the crankcase cover seal is seaping a lot of oil. the car is losing a quart of oil about every 120 miles and it is my daily driver. the turbo return line is leaking a little bit but minimal compared to this.
my main question is.. how much work and time would it take to replace that gasket and is there somewhere else i should look for leak? oil pan looks good, ive put dye in it and thats rly the only place i see leaking.

Congrats! You own a Mitsu that leaks!

The crankcase.. which i believe your talking about the oil pump front cover...

Is easy to replace IMO... just time consuming..

It requires a timing belt job and basic no how of how to replace a seal/gasket


Labor wise... you can probably find a side-working-mechanic to do it for about $250-$400 (that's what we charge)


While your at it, replace the cam seals its part of the timing belt maintenance that should always be taken car of....

well, the engine was rebuilt about 5000 miles ago and the timing belt and everything was replaced then, balance shaft removed also

i am a mechanic myself, but ive never replaced this kind of gasket and the software i own didnt tell me how to replace the seal, so its not a big for me. i just didnt wanna get involved in a huge job and need my car the next day. id probably end up beating myself up

Well if everything was replaced 5000 miles ago, then either

A) the seal/gasket wasnt done correctly

B) wasnt replaced

probably, but ive got reciepts for most of the stuff, so i know MOST of it was replaced. i put almost 600 miles on the car every 2 weeks, so the leak is pretty bad in my mind, since ive made the first post, ive put 2 quarts in it. it sucks, but it runs like newborne
